The Killer Queen ( Noella Briony ) novel Chapter 207

[Boss, it appears Vocalist headed out to Polaris Star’s abandoned lab. Should we intercept?]

What was Palmer doing poking around the ruins of Polaris Star?

Noella quickly shot back a message: [Let him be].

If Palmer's got a hunch, he'll dig up the dirt one way or another, even if she tried to stop him. As far as she was concerned, everything that needed to be torched in that lab had been turned to ash, leaving no trace behind.

Noella wasn't worried about Palmer finding anything incriminating.

Phecda, eyes glued to the satellite images, whistled in admiration. "Vocalist truly aligned with Boss; his methods are just as ruthless. The deep web's gonna be our playground soon enough!"

The Obelisk Organization was theirs; the Abyssal Organization belonged to their boss’s fiancé, and both were virtually the same thing.

Ivan chimed in with a touch of awe in his voice, "Who'd have thought we’d see the day when we'd be living the dream, all thanks to Boss?"

...

At the dinner table, Sexton was lost in memories of yore.

Marcel was getting irked by the nostalgia. "Doesn’t Palmer have two brothers? He’s the youngest, right? Where are the others?"

"Yeah, Palmer's brothers both got hitched and had kids. Just my luck Palmer's still flying solo. What's an old man to do? The kids have their own lives, and I can't be clingy, can I?"

The Pollacks and the Schnabels couldn't be more different. Marcel only had Tristan, and the family tree wasn't a complicated one. The Pollack clan had been a hot mess since the days they made their fortune, with non-stop infighting until Palmer took the reins. It was only then that things started to calm down. Even now, though, there were sharks circling in the water, waiting to snatch a piece of the Pollack Group.

Sexton shook his head. "That whole fiasco back then hit the boys hard, especially Palmer. He disappeared abroad for years, came back covered in scars, but he promised he'd keep the Pollack name going strong."

The old man's face was a map of hard years, yet his smile was a mix of pride and sorrow. "I'm getting on in years. This family's a shadow of what it once was. Palmer's brothers are caught up in their jobs. At my age, you can't be hounding your kids, right? I should've listened to Garrick. Should've stayed clear of the Pollack waters. At least we'd still be together as a family."

Marcel snorted. "Garrick was all talk. The guy was clueless. Wasn't he the one hellbent on starting that Polaris Star venture?"

Noella's brow twitched ever so slightly. She looked at Marcel. "Grandpa, this Polaris Star you're talking about, is it the one out on the frontier?"

Marcel waved it off, though his eyes held a flicker of regret. "Doesn't matter now. Heard it's gone to dust. I regret not blowing that lab to smithereens back in the day."

"Yeah, right. Like you'd have the guts to touch Polaris Star. Their lab's still standing on the frontier. Try blowing it up and see if Xavier doesn't chop you to bits before you even get close."

The materials used for the Polaris Star lab made it nearly indestructible.

What surprised Noella was how the two old men seemed familiar with Polaris Star's history. They were saying Garrick was the founder of Polaris Star?

Marcel grumbled. "I never liked Garrick's ways. Taking good kids and turning them into lab rats. That's evil!"
