Beckett had just brought Elara back from the research facility when he decided to meet up with Jacob. They sat down in the conference room at Rising Glory Group's headquarters for a lengthy chat, all about Elara.
Beckett wanted Jacob to seriously consider Elara's situation.
“I called Mr. Pollack here solely for Elara’s sake. Elara might be a Schnabel by name, but she's also a Pollack. If Mr. Pollack can’t treat her right, just give us a heads-up. The Schnabel family can take good care of her.”
Jacob was only made aware of Elara’s ordeal at the lab through Beckett. He had thought that being in a different lab from his own, Elara could focus solely on her research without distractions. Little did he know, she was still being harassed!
“I’ll look into it, and make sure Elara doesn’t suffer any injustice. As for anything else… I’d like to meet Elara before making any decisions.”
When it came to matters concerning Elara, his hands were tied.
Beckett agreed, and they shifted the conversation to Elara’s childhood, a bittersweet moment for Jacob.
After Beckett left for another meeting, Jacob sat alone, hands covering his face, his shoulders shaking.
When Elara received Jacob’s call, she was completely flustered!
Holding onto her stuffed toy, she was torn.
Noella, ever so considerate, asked, “Do you want to see him? If not, forget it. But if you do, then let’s go.”
Elara sat up in bed with a start!
“Maybe you and Mr. Pollack should come with me!”
Noella raised an eyebrow. While she expected to accompany Elara, why did Palmer need to join them?
“Think about it. You’re on my side, and Mr. Pollack represents the Pollack family. It’s only fair we each have someone.”
Besides, having Noella was mainly for moral support. But considering her sister’s naivety and kindness, what if Jacob managed to sway her?
Noella was speechless. It was indeed a well-thought-out plan. The idea of representing families in such a manner was new to Noella.
Elara had covered all bases, patting Noella on the shoulder. “It’s also a chance to see who Mr. Pollack chooses between his family and you. If he chooses you, it shows he’s heartless. If not, then he’s not the man for you!”
How straightforward.
Noella couldn't help but twitch at the corner of her eyes. “Elara, are you planning to go all out against Jacob?”
Was it really coming to a point where she had to call in reinforcements?
“No, no, the most important thing right now…” Elara pulled the covers over her head. “Is to sleep! We can worry about those troubles tomorrow morning. Remember to bring Mr. Pollack, Noella. If I push Jacob too far and he wants to hit me, Mr. Pollack better step in, or I’m not marrying my sister off to him.”
Noella sighed in resignation.
So, Elara’s real intention all along was to use Palmer as muscle? She sure had quite the imagination!
...
The next morning, Elara came downstairs with bags under her eyes, joining the Schnabel family already gathered for breakfast.
Marcel glanced at her. “Elara, were you up all night gaming?”
Yawning, Elara took her seat. “No, just couldn’t sleep, thinking about meeting Jacob.”
