Garrick showing up didn’t exactly surprise Marcel.
Given their shared history, it was only natural for Garrick to pay his respects to Harriet.
Still, his disheveled appearance did make Marcel chuckle. Did Garrick really think looking like a mess would win Harriet’s sympathy from beyond the grave?
At his age, still playing these pointless games!
Garrick’s gaze, cold and biting, landed on Noella.
“Marcel, what a piece of work your granddaughter is!”
Beckett, sensing the hostility, stepped in front of Noella, shielding her.
Ulrich, with a gentle smile, said, “Wondering what brings Garrick here. If it’s your eyesight failing, I can get you an appointment at our clinic!”
Stirling waved his hand, and the security guards around the cemetery focused on Garrick.
Jasper straightforwardly said, “Garrick’s supposed to be a role model, right? Save the snide remarks. Our Noella’s not in the best of health, and she’s timid. What if she gets scared?”
Palmer, holding Noella’s hand, looked at Garrick with a frosty gaze.
“Garrick, now you’re stooping to intimidate a young girl?”
Garrick was seething, faced with the united front of the Schnabel family!
He hadn’t seen Noella in action. Which frail, timid girl could set a trap as elaborate as hers, complete with a snake pit?
This wasn’t some delicate princess; this was a dark-hearted schemer!
And yet, the Schnabels protected her as if she were a precious gem.
“You have no idea what that girl has done!” Garrick started to say.
Noella, calm as ever, interjected, “Garrick, would you really air school laundry in front of my grandmother?
The departed may be gone, but they’re not blind to the living’s actions, Garrick. Grandma saw it all.”
Garrick swallowed his words.
Noella continued, “Twisting the truth at school is one thing, but in front of my grandma’s memorial?”
Marcel chimed in, “Garrick, if you’re here to mourn Harriet, fine. But if you’re here for Noella, you might as well leave. The Schnabel family doesn’t welcome your kind.”
That was an eviction notice if ever there was one.
“Marcel, I’m here to claim Harriet!” Garrick declared, stunning everyone.
Tristan frowned. “My mother’s already laid to rest. Where exactly are you planning to take her?”
Garrick brushed the dirt off his clothes.
“I was once Harriet’s husband. It’s only right I take her.”
The silence that followed was eerie.
Ulrich, with a complex look, said, “Garrick doesn’t seem mentally ill... What kind of nonsense is he spouting?”
Garrick, claiming to be Harriet’s husband to take her away, had everyone’s jaw on the floor.
