Sensing her nervousness, Grace immediately said, "I'm sorry. If this is a sensitive topic, feel free not to answer my question."
She understood that her question was too abrupt.
Personally, the reason behind her own question was due to the facial similarity between Maria and her cousin. However, Yvonne had no idea about that.
If she really asked whether Yvonne was related to her cousin in any way, Grace wasn't sure if she would take it well. She might even run away.
Who knew how she ended up with this child.
After pondering on it, even Grace felt that she was crossing the line with her question.
"No, it's fine." Yvonne shook her head. "I separated from Maria's dad due to some personal reasons, and we won't be able to reconcile in the future as well. Therefore, I'm not able to comment much on her father."
Grace was startled. She had many questions in her mind, but since Yvonne answered her that way, there was no other way for her to continue questioning her.
She nodded. "Let me know if you ever need any help. If I can help, I will surely do my best."
"Thank you so much," Yvonne expressed her gratitude sincerely. "I've already troubled you guys so much. I'm afraid that I may have to trouble you guys in the future as well."
"I used to take care of my child on my own as well, but I had my sister who could help me out. You must be exhausted, having to raise Maria alone," Grace said, "I gave birth to Little Gary and Ernest before getting married, so it was very stressful back then, which is why I understand how you feel. It was my bad to ask you such a sensitive question just now."
"It doesn't matter." Yvonne didn't mind. "Maria is very smart, but she also has some minor problems. I'm not sure if it's because she doesn't have a father and thus feels insecure, but she could never stop talking as if she would cease to exist the moment no one answered her. Hence, I feel really guilty towards my daughter as I'm not sure what I can do about it."
Grace nodded and didn't know what she could say.
Suddenly, the phone rang.
She checked her phone and realized that it was a
call from Zachary.
She immediately said to Yvonne, "I'm sorry, but I have to pick up a call first. Please give me two minutes."
"Okay." Yvonne nodded her head and remained there.
After answering the phone, Grace asked, "Zachary?"
"I'm at your house, but neither of you is here. Should I leave or stay and wait for the two of you?"
"You're already at my house? I'll be back real soon, don't leave yet, Zachary. I really have something to talk to you about."
"Okay, I'll wait for you then." He didn't say anything else.
After hanging up the phone, she looked at Yvonne and said, "Madam Attwood, let's keep in contact and have a drink together in the future. My cousin just paid a visit, so I have to leave now."
"Okay, go ahead." Yvonne smiled and thanked her again. "Thank you so much for looking after my child last night."
"Haha, you're welcome. My children were mainly the ones who looked after her. I didn't do much." Grace didn't want to claim all the credit.
"Please thank your children for me." Yvonne didn't have to think much to imagine what must have happened. "I'm sure they must be exhausted."
"They're still fine." Grace didn't want to tell her truthfully that her children were so tired that their eyes became swollen.
She looked at Yvonne and felt that she didn't probe her enough, so she said, "Actually, my cousin's surname is Lowe. He's from the Lowe family in Southland."
"The Lowe family of Southland?" Yvonne's whole body shook as she stared at Grace with her eyes wide open.
Grace instantly understood something.
