Alice didn't know what had gotten into her, but she drove to the Emerald Apartment, got out of the car, and went upstairs.
Perhaps, it was because she had deeply felt the convenience and help Heinz had brought her, she was very grateful to him.
She actually wanted to repay them and do something nice for Heinz and Grace.
Like visiting Heinz's evil father, Lawrence. She also knew that her brother-in-law had a difficult time letting go.
However, Alice and Grace wanted to do something for him.
She might as well visit him since she was already there.
Alice knocked on the door.
It didn't take long for the door to open.
Lawrence didn't look like he was in a good state of mind. His white hair and stubbly beard made him look very haggard.
He was also taken aback when he saw Alice on the other side of the door. Probably because very few people here would visit him.
"It's you?" Lawrence leaned to one side after opening the door and said, "Come on in. This is your home after all."
He merely just borrowed the place.
Lawrence turned around and walked inside.
Alice followed him in and shut the door.
She stood at the entryway and noticed it was rather clean. At least he kept it that way, unlike a filthy bachelor pad.
Alice was slightly surprised. She stood at the entryway and looked around.
As if he had read Alice's mind, Lawrence spoke after he went further in. "You guys were generous enough to provide me a place to stay, so naturally, I wouldn't dirty it. I have to at least live up to your kindness."
"Alright," Alice walked in, sat next to him on the sofa, and commented, "You don't look like you're doing well, but you kept the house quite clean and tidy."
"You don't need to praise me," Lawrence said as he poured her a cup of tea. "Drink a little. Grace asked Lester to bring me the tea.”
"No thanks," Alice shook her head.
"What's wrong? Are you afraid that I'll poison you?"
Lawrence fixed his gaze on Alice as if he was not surprised by Alice's attitude at all.
Alice laughed out loud and shook her head. She looked up at Lawrence and said with a self-deprecating smile, "Honestly, I'm not afraid of that. It's just that I drank a lot of coffee when I worked overtime earlier. I really can't take any more caffeine. I'm also very tired recently. I’ll come and drink with you some other day."
"Have tea with me?" Lawrence was even more surprised. A complicated emotion flashed across his eyes, but he was more shocked and puzzled. "I don't think I heard you right."
