Zachary and Yvonne were standing by the door. The grandmother and granddaughter both felt their presence. Thus, they turned around and looked at them.
For a moment, Yvonne was extremely nervous.
Zachary shouted, "Mom, we are back."
Nerissa finally saw that someone was standing by her son's side. After so many years, he was finally no longer single. A smile flashed across Nerissa's face and she sprung up in an instant.
"You're back. We were waiting for you to have dinner together," Nerissa walked over with a smirk.
Yvonne instantly became even more nervous. She was at a loss for what to do.
Hence, she tried her best to put on a smile in an attempt to leave a good first impression and not embarrass herself.
"Yvonne, this is our mom," Zachary introduced Yvonne to Nerissa before exchanging formalities, "Mom, this is Yvonne."
Yvonne hurriedly nodded. The moment she saw that her mother-in-law had a warm smile as she strode over, she was instantly moved.
Seeing Nerissa's smile on her face, Yvonne gained the courage and greeted her, "Mom."
Nerissa responded joyously.
Then, she grabbed Yvonne's hand and said, "My child, you have suffered a lot throughout all these years. Both Zachary and the Lowe family and Zachary owe you too much."
"It's fine, mom," Yvonne didn't expect her to say that. She was even more moved and hurriedly shook her head.
"Don't stand there. Come in and sit down first. You are probably tired from such a long trip."
Yvonne hurriedly shook her head.
Nerissa's hand was warm and gentle, just like her personality.
Yvonne turned her gaze towards her daughter sitting on the couch and just stood there with a steady gaze.
Similarly, Maria was also rooted in place. It was as though she didn't recognise them at all.
Yvonne was a little tensed up. She looked at her and called out gently, "Maria!"
Maria suddenly sprung up from the sofa and sprinted towards the stairs to the second floor.
"Maria," Yvonne became anxious.
"Maria," Nerissa was also very surprised, "Didn't we make a deal? Why are you still so shy when you see your mom and dad?"
"Mom, I'll go upstairs to have a look," Zachary said.
Nerissa glanced at her son and suggested, "Take Yvonne together with you. Your room has been tidied up, and you two can go talk to Maria. Maria has already accepted it, so she might just be shy. Don't worry, everything is going to be fine."
Would it?
Yvonne was very suspicious.
She had a feeling that Maria was still blaming her. This child was still reluctant to forgive her and she felt very guilty because of that as well.
Speaking of which, Nerissa was such a gentle person. The moment she stepped into the house, Nerissa had already taken her feelings into consideration although it was their first time meeting. Yvonne was touched by such actions.
"Alright. Yvonne, follow me," Zachary said to Yvonne.
Nerissa personally handed Yvonne's hand to Zachary and said to them, "You guys can bring the child down here first. After comforting her, we will discuss your wedding over dinner. We mustn't miss anything." "Thank you, mom," Yvonne said through tears. She was really touched.
Zachary nodded and took Yvonne upstairs.
When they reached upstairs and the moment she swung open the door, she saw how humongous Zachary's room was. The bed was huge with a brand new red quilt, and the room was decorated in a festive wedding theme.
Zachary burst into laughter, "They've bought such a big bed. My mom seems to love us a lot to know that we will need such a huge bed."
"What are you talking about?" Yvonne smacked him abashedly. She looked at the corridor outside worriedly and said, "Which room is Maria's? I want to see her."
"She's in the next room. I'll talk to her first."
"Let me go," Yvonne was earnest, "Maria may be really shy. Even though your mom asked us to go together, I still wish to have a personal conversation with her. Maria and I had gone through a lot of things together, while you and your mom had also helped me a lot. I think it's time I take the leap of faith and take the initiative to talk to this child of mine. I believe she can understand."
"I'm just worried,” Zachary was straightforward about his worries. After all, this child had a lot in mind, and he was afraid that Yvonne might be hurt by her words.
