An hour later.
Ernest returned.
After he came in, he sat down in his seat and started reading a book quietly.
Celeste looked at him several times, but Ernest was very calm the entire time. He didn't even look at her once.
She finally looked for him after class, "Ernest."
"Celeste?" Ernest raised his head and gave her a smile, "What's up?"
"Has your brother left?" Celeste still asked, but she couldn't stop her face from blushing afterwards.
Ernest's gaze landed on her face seamlessly. He nodded and said, "Yes, he just left. I sent him off this morning."
"I see," Celeste nodded and smiled at Ernest. Then, she turned around and walked back to her seat.
During class, she was pretty much distracted the whole time.
In the next few days, there was no news about Gary.
Until four days later.
Celeste finally heard about Gary's updates from Maria.
That day, Maria had come to see her and told her secretly, "Gary has adjusted himself to the new timing in the United States. He just called me to let me know that he's doing fine and coping well."
"He called you?" Celeste was dumbfounded. "When?"
"Last night," Maria said, "He allocated some time to give me a call."
Maria looked at Celeste's eyes as she spoke as if she was trying to look for clues on her face.
Celeste was stunned almost in an instant. She pursed her lips and kept quiet.
Maria looked at her with a glimmer in her eyes.
Her big eyes flickered, and she laughed immediately, "Celeste, did Gary give you a call?"
Celeste shook her head and said, "No, why would he do that?"
Maria shrugged and laughed, "You're right. He wouldn't have to as there's nothing between you two, right?"
Celeste nodded, "Yeah, there's nothing between us anyway."
Maria laughed and said with a hidden meaning, "That's right. I actually wanted to share his new phone number with you, but now that you have said that, I think I can forget it."
Celeste asked immediately, "Did you just say that you have his new phone number?"
"Yeah, the number to his residence," Maria added.
Celeste wanted to ask for it, but for some reason, she didn't know how to.
"Celeste, do you want it?" Maria knew Celeste would naturally want the number, and she would also give it to her anyway. But she couldn't help but want to tease Celeste for a bit.
Celeste hesitated for a moment and nodded, "Yeah, share it with me."
"So you're saying, you're going to give him a call?" Maria asked, "Is that right?"
Celeste was taken aback. Her face turned slightly red, and she said, "I'll call him later."
"You should call him," Maria said, "Look, you were supposed to go to the United States with him, but you changed your mind halfway through, so in the end he had to go there alone. Don't you think you should call him to apologize?"
Celeste was a little surprised, "Do you really think it's my fault?"
"Yes," Maria nodded, "Aren't you wrong?"
Celeste opened her mouth. Fine.
This was Maria's recognition and freedom.
