D*mn, Celeste actually forgot to call him back.
Gary didn't know what to say as he was both shocked and speechless.
Since he didn't have a comeback, he could only stare at Celeste angrily.
However, Celeste's attention was obviously not on him. She seemed to be holding a pen in her hand and there was a stack of documents on the table. She was reading them as she spoke to him.
Gary was extremely annoyed. He wished that she would pay more attention to him.
Celeste replied as she scanned the documents. "Look at how swamped I am with schoolwork. Oh, do you mind if I read while we talk?"
"I do mind it a lot, actually," Gary replied in an irritated tone.
Celeste was surprised to hear that, so she put down the pen in her hand and looked up at Gary. She grinned, "Well, hurry up and spit it out if you have something to say. I need to get back to work after we're done calling. I've been really busy these days, and I've tried to keep myself occupied after you left."
Keeping herself occupied was a fantastic way to stop herself from missing Gary, so it was already ingrained into her daily life.
Now, she even made a big show of paying extra attention to what Gary had to say.
However, this made Gary annoyed and his expression was harsh. Since when did Celeste start being so dismissive with him?
Celeste was taken aback by his expression, but then she immediately burst into laughter. Shaking her head, she said, "What the hell? When have I ever been dismissive? Didn't I just say I was busy? I'm not trying to get rid of you, Gary. Plus, you told me to always tell you the truth about my feelings."
Gary frowned as he looked at Celeste's smiling face through the screen. She was sincere and open, but he was still rather upset for some reason.
After she finished speaking, Celeste picked up her pen and returned to her work after she noticed that Gary was silent.
Gary frowned as he narrowed his eyes at Celeste. Then, his voice was soft as he said, "Celeste, I miss you so much. I really f*cking miss you. Do you understand what I'm saying?" "I get it, but please mind your language," Celeste nodded calmly, as if Gary was talking about the weather.
"I'm flying to London right now to visit you," Gary couldn't tolerate it anymore. He quickly stood up, phone in hand, as he prepared to pack up and leave for London.
Celeste paused for a moment, and she was greeted by Gary's dashing face when she looked up at her phone again. Seeing how agitated he was, her heart skipped a beat as she immediately replied, "No, please don't come. I'm extremely busy, and I don't even have enough time for my studies. I don't think I can spend time with you if you visit."
"I don't care, I'm coming to see you. I'll stay for three days before I return to Boston," Gary felt like he would explode if he didn't go to London, and his gaze was serious as he looked at the screen.
Celeste sighed and shook her head in refusal, "I'm serious, please don't come all the way here. I'm busy, and I've been feeling unwell recently."
She was obviously trying to stop Gary from coming.
Gary frowned as he initially believed that Celeste was truly unwell. Then, he locked eyes with her and asked, "You're still studying when you're not feeling well? Are you telling the truth, or are you just trying to stop me?"
Celeste then admitted honestly, "Yeah, I'm trying to stop you from coming here. I'm exhausted, you know? I applied for a lot of courses in order to keep myself occupied, so I'm swamped with work. Look at how much work I have! I have to finish it tonight so I can hand it in tomorrow."
"What about me? I'm your boyfriend! Are you really going to just toss me aside?" Gary retorted.
"Well, you didn't contact me either over the past few weeks, but you're doing fine, right? I think you can hold on for a little while longer," Celeste explained.
"Ha. So, you're blaming me for this now?"
"I'm not blaming you. I'm just trying to reason with you," Celeste raised her gaze and looked at him seriously for a while. Frowning, she suddenly stood up and turned around to run outside.
Gary was dumbstruck as he realized that Celeste really seemed to be sick as her face had completely drained of color earlier.
He immediately became a little anxious. He asked, "What's wrong, Celeste?"
At the time, Celeste was in the school's dormitory. She lived there, so she made her way to the closest bathroom.
A wave of nausea overcame her as she hunched over the toilet and retched, but nothing came out.
When she came back, her face was pale and Gary was concerned. He immediately said, "I'll come to London now to see. What's wrong? What happened to you just now? Why is your face so pale?"
"I've been a little tired and stressed out recently. I'm afraid that I really wouldn't have the time to be with you if you insist on coming as I have a lot of things on my plate right now. I don't know what's wrong, but I feel exhausted," Celeste replied truthfully.
