"That's right," Celeste replied firmly.
Infuriated, Cindy said angrily, "Great. Just great. You really have some guts. I want to see how long someone with no status or family background to speak of can remain in the Jones family. Let's just see how someone who doesn't even know who her parents are is going to marry into the Jones family."
Celeste's face turned deathly pale almost immediately.
These words were a fatal blow to her.
She bit her lips anxiously, her back straight and her whole body stiff. She gripped her phone and opened her mouth to speak.
However, Gary snatched the phone over and said in a deep voice, "Cindy, Celeste is the most suitable candidate to marry into the Jones family. I, Gary Smith, don't need to look for a woman with a background or family that is similar to mine. So, you don't have to worry about Celeste at all."
When Cindy heard his voice, she was stunned. She had not expected Celeste to be with Gary at that moment.
However, she returned to her senses within a few seconds and replied coldly, "Oh, so you're Master Gary. Your surname is still Smith?"
Gary snorted. "What does that have to do with you?"
"You even took your mother's surname. But as far as I know, your mother's surname isn't really Smith. Her father's surname is Yarbrough. Speaking of which, your mother had some quite complicated relationships. You're really a good match for Celeste after all," Cindy said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Gary sneered and replied in a similar tone, "It's just a surname. Unlike you, your life is a mess. Even your private life is a mess. You've probably contracted all sorts of diseases by now."
"You!" Cindy fumed. Even she was no match for his sharp tongue.
"What about me? I'm just telling the truth. Cindy, not only do you have a messy private life, your brain is in a mess too. Do you really think that Michael is yours after he left his family?"
"How did you know that I'm with Michael?" she demanded, becoming wary immediately.
He smiled and said, "That's not all I know. I even know that everyone on the Internet is talking about your messy private life. You've become the target of the wives of the men you seduced. You should be more careful. Don't be too arrogant. Otherwise, if someone were to take revenge on you, you wouldn't even know who your enemy is because you've offended too many people."
She sneered. "I'll wait and see what happens to you and Celeste."
"You might not be able to see what happens between Celeste and me," he replied, his tone sharp. "That's because things won't turn out well for you. Perhaps you'll get taken down by those angry wives first."
"You low-life little b*stard!" she shouted.
Gary smiled. "Who are you calling a low-life?"
He retorted curtly.
She took a deep breath.
In a calm tone, Gary said, "Are you angry? You're feeling guilty, aren't you? Be careful. Those ladies won't be easy to deal with. Be careful when you're out on the streets at night too. You might encounter some bad people."
"You are a little b*stard. Even your surname is Smith. Your mother wasn't a good woman either. Before she was with your father, she already had an affair with her brother- in- law. Don't think we don't know about that," she snarled, digging up the past.
Unexpectedly, he remained calm. "You're feeling guilty. That's why you're attacking my mother. There's no need for you to judge her character. No matter how jealous you are, you won't be able to get Heinz. The smartest thing he has ever done was cut all ties with you. Otherwise, he would be disgusted to death."
"How dare you!" she roared.
"No matter what happens to me, it has nothing to do with you. If you're lonely, why don't you continue sleeping with Michael? Don't disturb Celeste because you won't get any satisfaction out of it. If you want to be comforted, it's better to go to Michael." His tone became even sharper as he continued, "Don't come looking for Celeste again. If you persist with your evil plans, I can assure you that whatever you have left of your retirement fees will be taken away. I can make you fall into poverty for the rest of your life. You'll live a life that's worse than death. If you don't believe me, just wait and see."
"You... You little b*stard," she spat out.
"Shut up!" he growled.
It stunned her into silence.
"We don't have time to waste on you." With that, Gary hung up.
Celeste looked at him and said, "Why did you have to talk to her? You should've just hung up as soon as possible."
"It's fine. She's probably feeling angrier than us." Then, he smiled and asked, "Are you all right? You don't look well. Did she make you angry? Or were you frightened by her?"
"I'm fine. Don't worry," she replied.
"She said she wasn't the one who called you. What do you think about that?" he asked, wanting to hear her opinion.
"It has to be her," she answered with certainty. "She changed her voice to confuse me. However, no matter how much she changed her voice, her tone didn't change. I'm sure that she was the one who called and threatened me."
