Gary stared fixedly at Lowell, but he found nothing out of the ordinary. He muttered to himself, "Could I be overthinking things?"
Lowell looked back at him steadily and Gary couldn't help but frown. Perhaps he had thought too much.
"Is that so? I thought he knew about this. You rushed over looking for me, so how did you know that Janice would be back?" Gary asked.
"I was just guessing. Janice will find a way here by hook or by crook. How could she let you stay here for two months?"
Gary nodded. "I guess you know Janice very well. By that reasoning, she definitely wouldn't let me stay here for two months without doing anything."
"So, we must be careful and not allow her to cause any trouble," Lowell warned Gary.
This was what Heinz asked Lowell to tell Gary.
Lowell chose his words carefully for fear that he'd give away the fact that Heinz knew about this.
It was hard for him to lie, and he was in a terrible mood.
Although this lie was for the greater good, it was still an uncomfortable experience, "She's back." Gary looked out at the inky night sky with a piercing look in his eye, and he radiated a dangerous aura. "I can't confirm which flight she took, but I know she chartered a plane."
"She's really here?" Lowell was stunned for a moment before coming back to his senses. He felt rather relieved, frankly. It seemed that Gary knew about this long ago, and he acted very swiftly to find out more information.
However, Gary ignored him as he continued staring outside. His next words were said very slowly. "What a bad omen."
Lowell forced a smile. Gary was right.
Janice was bad news for everyone, and all of them wanted to avoid her.
Gary narrowed his eyes as he thought about the matter.
"Can you find Janice's flight?" Lowell was worried as Gary remained silent.
"Yep." Gary did not hesitate at all. This was something he had to do. He had to find it, or else he would be forced to be on the defensive.
What happened before was completely out of his control, and he couldn't afford to dawdle again. He had to strike when the iron was hot.
After Gary finished speaking, he turned his head to look at Lowell and asked, "Why did my father see you today?"
"Your father?" Lowell froze for a moment. Then, he smiled and said, "Your father is just concerned about me. He's still nagging at me to get married. He wants me to get a girlfriend. First, it was your mother's nagging. Then, your father. They took turns bombarding me with instructions to get a girlfriend."
"Well, find one then," Gary replied.
Lowell gave a wry smile and said, "I don't have a good eye for women. Before I improve that, I can't just find any random woman. What if I meet someone like Janice again?"
"Then it's not a matter of your taste. It's more about your luck," Gary replied.
"Yeah, that sounds more like it," Lowell chuckled.
Gary did not ask any more questions. It seemed that he no longer had any doubts about things.
Lowell secretly heaved a sigh of relief. When Gary had asked him about it earlier, he was almost scared to death.
Lowell seemed to remember an important question. "Oh right, why are you out here on your own?" "You're asking me why I'm out on my own when I've found out that Janice is coming back? Do you think I'll take Celeste with me? Wouldn't she find out then?" Gary questioned.
Lowell was stunned. Gary was right, Celeste couldn't know about this.
It seemed that Gary did not want Celeste knowing about Janice's return. Initially, Lowell had thought that something had happened to the both of them.
Lowell immediately felt guilty. He always worried about Gary and Celeste's relationship, but alas, things turned out this way.
He apologized. "Sorry, I didn't think it would be like this."
"If you don't have anything else to add, you can leave now." Gary pursed his lips. "Let me be alone for a moment."
"Oh, okay." Lowell nodded. "I'll help you look into Janice's flight when I get back."
Lowell got out of the car before Gary could say anything else.
He turned around to look at Gary before reluctantly leaving. From the looks of it, he was truly worried.
Gary didn't send him off either as he was frustrated to his core.
His relationship with Celeste was already in jeopardy. They'd brought up separation before, and they still had to deal with their relatives tactfully.
These days, both of them were skeptical about nearly everything. Heinz, Grace and even Ernest and Leah seemed to be testing him.
It seemed to them, there was something off between him and Celeste.
Was it that obvious?
Could they all see that something was going on between them?
Taking a deep breath, Gary rubbed his temples once again. He'd been frowning so much recently that he must've gotten a few new wrinkles.
He got out of the car quickly and walked onto the busy streets.
His tall figure merged into the darkness with ease, but he still stood out among the crowd.
He took a long stroll in the night market, and the surroundings were all unfamiliar to him.
