At that point, Sylvia suddenly understood one thing. Her parents were not inviting Claudia because of her, it was because of Sebastian.
She gazed at them, then smiled meaningfully. "Don't worry. I won't tell him about this."
Both Heinz and Grace saw the eagerness in her eyes.
Grace was stunned for a bit. It seemed like Sylvia had realized their plans.
Fortunately, Sylvia did not say anything.
Grace secretly breathed a sigh of relief and gave Sylvia a look of praise.
"Good girl."
Sylvia left quickly. When she got back to her room, she called Claudia and invited her over on another day.
Thus, the dinner was rescheduled to the day after.
On one hand, Sebastian probably would not go out if they set it during dinner time. Moreover, they would have more time at night, and Claudia could stay longer.
After setting the date with Claudia, Sylvia started looking forward to it.
She did not expect that Claudia would still come over for dinner. At the same time, she really admired Claudia for being able to be reasonable and rational.
The next day, Sebastian went out at noon.
He did not return home until eight or nine o'clock at night.
When he entered the house, he realized that it was quiet. His parents were not downstairs, and there were no signs of a guest either.
Sebastian felt suspicious. Did they not have a guest over? Sebastian wondered.
Just then, the butler appeared in the hall. When he saw Sebastian, he greeted him immediately. "Young Master Sebastian, you're home. Do you want anything to eat? Would you like us to prepare some food?"
"There's no need for that," said Sebastian in a low voice.
"All right then," the butler replied while nodding. Just as he was about to go on with his own business, Sebastian stopped him.
"Butler," Sebastian began.
"Yes, Young Master Sebastian. Is there anything else you need me to help you with?"
Sebastian hesitated for a moment before asking, "Didn't we have any guests over today?"
"Guests?" The butler was very surprised. There had been no such thing. He shook his head and replied, "No, there weren't any guests today."
Sebastian was dumbfounded. He frowned as he said, "Oh, all right. You may go then."
If there were no guests that day, why did his parents say so the other night then? Sebastian wondered.
Could it be that something had happened?
Could it be that Claudia did not want to come?
That was right. Claudia probably would not appear at the Jones' residence ever again. Sebastian thought to himself. He felt relieved, yet at the same time, he felt a vague sense of loss.
The feeling made him frown even more. In the end, he simply shook his head and went upstairs.
Unexpectedly, he bumped into Sylvia, who was coming down just as he approached the stairs.
Sylvia saw him and said with a smile, "You're home. You went out for quite a while today."
Sebastian gazed at her, sensing that she was secretly happy about something.
Meanwhile, her eyes were also very sharp. It seemed as if she had detected something amiss.
