It dawned on Jensen that there was something wrong with Alice.
"I'm fine, I'm really okay," Alice smiled and continued softly, "Jensen, it's not easy for you to be an officer."
"It's not that bad." As he spoke, his heart skipped a beat and he felt very miserable. It was a sharp premonition as an officer.
"Have you ever considered other professions?" Alice continued to ask, "Do you have to be an officer?"
"It's my dream!" Jensen explained, "I like my job and I want to serve the public."
Alice could no longer speak.
Suddenly, no words would come out. That was Jensen's dream and it was not his fault.
However, she was frightened.
She was scared that those men would hurt her family. She was afraid that Grace and Little Gary would be dragged into it. She could not care less if she was on her own. She could be braver if she had no one she cared about.
However, Alice loved Grace and Grace's son.
She was at a loss.
She was afraid that someone would harm her sister and Little Gary.
Jensen was uneasy when he could not hear Alice's voice. His breathing became uneven and his heart skipped a beat.
Jensen had a bad feeling. "Alice?"
"Hmm, it's nothing." Her voice was relaxed as she held onto her mobile phone. She said, "I'm at the entrance of the sports ground. It's near the entrance to the tennis courts and soccer fields. Come in and look for me when you get here. Drive safe."
"Well, okay!" Jensen added, "Don't hang up, I want to hear your voice."
"Okay!" Alice replied softly, "Promise me that you'll drive safely."
"Okay!" Jensen answered.
They chatted but there was a hint of sadness in their tones.
Jensen drove his car into the campus and he got out of the car. He dashed to the entrance of the sports ground.
He spotted a small figure sitting at the front row of the bleachers just beside the street lamp.
Jensen was still holding his mobile phone. His heart was pounding against his chest. He breathed a sigh of relief when he spotted Alice sitting at the bleacher.
"I spotted you," Jensen said.
"I can see you too." Alice raised her eyes and looked towards the entrance.
Jensen's tall figure strode to her. He was holding his mobile phone to his ear like Alice.
"Alice, I'm scared," he whispered when he was over ten meters away from her.
"What are you afraid of?" she asked.
"I have a bad premonition." Jensen's voice was bitter. "I'm afraid that I'll hear something horrible when I get to you."
Alice paused and sighed internally. It turned out that he had a hunch too.
In truth, Alice wanted to break up with Jensen.
She no longer wanted to be an officer's girlfriend.
However, Alice stared at Jensen miserably when she heard his sorrowful voice. He stopped moving when he was over ten meters away from her.
Alice did not speak. She hung up and kept her mobile phone in her pocket.
She was very depressed too.
Jensen realized that Alice hung up the call. He stowed away his mobile phone before making his way to Alice swiftly.
Shortly after, he was in front of her.
Alice's long hair hung down over her face. She raised her head slowly and her face was vague under the dim light.
However, Jensen's eyes were sharp.
He had years of experience as an officer and he soon noticed the bruises on Alice's face.
Jensen knelt down in front of her and reached out to hold her chin.
Alice immediately grabbed his hand and tried to stop him from looking at her face.
However, Jensen spotted it.
Her chin was bruised and her cheeks were red and bloated. Her cheeks were asymmetrical but nonetheless, they were very swollen.
