Jensen instructed over his mobile phone swiftly, "Investigate what I just told you and keep an eye on them. Don't let them slip away."
After hanging up, Jensen stared at Heinz.
Heinz walked in and scoffed, "You're really a coward officer."
Jensen was disheartened by Heinz's remark and could not retort.
Heinz changed the subject when Jensen did not speak. He asked, "Who assaulted Alice?"
"How did you know?" Jensen asked.
Heinz should not have found out so quickly. He even made a trip to Jensen's place to check on Alice.
"Alice called me," Heinz explained, "I came as soon as possible. Her face was seriously injured. Who did it?"
"Carl Witlock," Jensen replied, "The one who ran a nightclub in the north part of the city. He used to run an illegal factory but it was raided. We closed down the nightclub too. He probably has no income now, so he abducted Alice to warn me."
"Carl Witlock?" Heinz sneered and replied sarcastically, "Who is he to threaten you?"
"There're a lot of people who would threaten me," Jensen answered helplessly, "It's the downside that comes with my job. I'm constantly dealing with groups of criminals. Some of them are still trying to continue their illegal business. What do you expect from a bunch of criminals?" "Do you regret it?" Heinz raised his eyebrow and continued, "Being an officer."
Jensen stroked his face. He heaved a sigh, "I never did but I immediately regretted it when I saw what happened to Alice."
Jensen was not afraid of what others would do to him. Instead, he was afraid of putting his loved ones in danger.
Heinz lit a cigarette and offered one to Jensen. The two of them started to smoke.
Heinz's face darkened. "How dare Carl do this to you?"
Jensen nodded. "I guess he was desperate."
Heinz flicked the ash off his cigarette and walked to Jensen's desk. He sat down and asked, "What are you going to do?"
"Beat him up!" Jensen replied grimly.
Heinz gave a faint smile and his eyes showed that he was interested. After a long pause, Heinz parted his lips and concluded, "Beat him to death!"
"Yes," Jensen added, "There's no need to be merciful as long as it's within the law."
"I'll go and meet him tomorrow," Heinz uttered in a low voice, "Since when could a punk like him do as he pleased in Northern City?"
Jensen stared at Heinz and asked, "What are you going to do? This is my business and I can solve it by myself."
"You?" Heinz scoffed, "If you could settle it, Alice wouldn't call me. She even acknowledged me as her brother-in-law. How useless are you for her to do that?"
Jensen was baffled. "She accepted you as her brother-in-law?"
That was beyond Jensen's expectation. He always thought that Alice would not acknowledge Heinz so quickly, in fact, she would even put up a fight. Jensen knew Alice well and she would never give in.
However, Alice chose to compromise. It seemed that she did not trust him.
Jensen's face was a little gloomy. He lowered his eyes and he felt helpless. Alice called Heinz personally to do whatever he could.
She should not think like that.
"Yes, Alice accepted me as her brother-in-law," Heinz said arrogantly, "Alright, stop feeling sorry for yourself. She called me because she wanted me to protect her sister and Little Gary; it's not about not trusting you. She's worried that someone will hurt her family members to take their revenge on you."
Jensen was taken aback. "She is more thoughtful than I am."
"Do you think that you're the only officer in the world? Do you think that you're the only one who's thoughtful? We are not officers, so we shouldn't have common sense?" Heinz raised his eyebrows and retorted.
Jensen sensed Heinz's anger.
Jensen took a deep breath and asked, "Why are you so angry?"
