Heinz stood by the door, his tall figure illuminated by the lights from the hallway.
He stood behind Grace. He noticed that she was staring at the child before her in a daze.
She was terrified of meeting him.
Grace was probably too timid to see him.
Heinz faltered as he looked at her silhouette.
She had given birth to two children with such a fragile body. One mistake in one night led her to bear this heavy weight for countless years.
Heinz's pupils constricted as he thought about this. His heart began to throb in pain, and a lump formed in his throat. He found it painful to even swallow.
Grace stood at the doorway and stared at the sleeping boy on the bed.
She wanted no more than to rush over and embrace him, and tell him about her woes.
However, she couldn't take a single step forward.
She felt that she had wronged her son.
Truthfully, she was the one who did not foresee the possible dangers; she was the one who did not take care of her son, leading to their separation.
She owed him a lot.
Her two legs felt extremely heavy. She couldn't take a step forward. Every step was weighing her down and she could barely control her emotions.
Grace took a deep breath. Trying her best to restrain herself, she started walking towards Ernest.
She knew that she had to do this.
She would do anything for her son. She had finally found what she had lost.
Her eyes teared up once again, and she swallowed nervously as her entire body trembled.
She slowly stepped towards her son.
Heinz looked at her from behind. He could almost see the strength emanating from her body.
As a mother, she was strong.
Every woman would probably become strong for their children.
His eyes wavered and he felt bad for Grace.
He thought to himself that he should never let her down in his lifetime. He would never forgive himself if that was to happen.
For the rest of his life, he would treat her well.
After a long while, Grace was finally by Ernest's side.
She slowly turned on the bedside lamp. The light illuminated his features, and she felt a sense of familiarity as she looked at his face.
It was obvious that Ernest was her child.
His face, his features were all a combination of her and Heinz.
Little Gary had inherited Heinz's genes well, so he looked completely like Heinz.
Ernest looked more like a mix between Grace and Heinz.
She reached out her hands to touch his face, but she suddenly halted.
She retreated her hands quickly. She suddenly remembered that her hands were cold, and she was worried that the cold was going to wake him up. She rubbed her palms together until they were warm.
After that, she finally reached over hesitantly and touched his face gently.
Ernest was sleeping soundly. When her hand fell, his eyebrows moved slightly.
Grace felt a strange sensation surge through her entire body.
