At 9:30 a.m.
The press conference was about to start.
The bruises on Queenie's face were still there. She looked haggard, and it was obvious that she was still dumbfounded by the situation.
She wore an elegant dark-colored suit as she waited in the lounge.
When Heinz entered the door with Grace, she quickly stood up. She had an apologetic expression on her face.
"Heinz. Grace," she greeted awkwardly. "You guys are here."
"Hello, Chief Stone." Grace smiled. When she saw the bruises on Queenie's face, she was shocked. Jodie had really crossed the line; she was reckless enough to beat up an elderly woman.
"Hello, Grace." Queenie was impressed by her kindness as she had still greeted her despite all that had happened.
Her eyes became teary as she looked at Grace. "Grace, I am so sorry for what I have done towards you. I sincerely apologize."
After that, she bowed.
Grace was astonished, and she quickly reached out her hand to hold Queenie. "Chief Stone, you don't have to."
She insisted bowing again. She looked up to Grace and apologized once again, "Grace, you have suffered enough. It was all my fault as an elder, and I am deeply sorry for that. I hope that it's not too late."
Grace shook her head.
Queenie then turned to Heinz and said, "Heinz, we were the ones who were in the wrong. To tell you the truth, we were indeed being selfish back then and had other intentions. Seeing you and Grace together, we felt proud, but oddly down at the same time."
"After all, we wanted you to be happy and not to be alone anymore, but once we actually saw it, we felt disappointed."
"Especially Nathan and Pearlyn, they had mixed feelings."
"I was the same. I wanted it to happen, but at the same time, I also didn't."
"After that, Jodie returned, and we were suddenly filled with hope again. We really wished for you to stay with Jodie, and we didn't think about Grace's feelings at all."
"This was all because of our own selfishness.
I feel really ashamed as I face you right now. I don't know what I can do to make it up to you."
"I'm really sorry. I hope that both you and Grace can accept my apology."
As she said that, Queenie bowed to Heinz.
Heinz frowned and replied in a deep voice, "It's all over. Chief Stone, there's no need for all of this."
"I truly am ashamed to face the both of you. I feel like I am not human," Queenie said. "Actually, there is still one thing that I've been hiding from you two."
"What is it?" Grace was a little surprised.
"It's about your body," Queenie stated. "Grace, the condition of your uterus isn't that bad. Even though your endocrine disorder is rather serious, your uterus is not in a bad shape. I exaggerated it because I knew you two would not understand the test. I told my examiner to write in your report that your uterus wall is thin, but it was not the truth."
"It was because I didn't want you to have a baby so soon. I had mixed feelings when I first saw Grace."
"I was being selfish and I apologize to you now. You can have a child anytime soon."
Heinz's brows furrowed tightly, a sharp glint flashing across his eyes. "Chief Stone, you've crossed the line." "Yes," she admitted, feeling extremely apologetic. "I feel so sorry, and that is why I can't face the both of you. I had been living in guilt all these while, but don't worry, the medicines I prescribed to Grace were all supplements. They act as vitamins and it's good for her body. They have no side effects."
"I'm telling you now, Grace, you just have to take care of your body, and you will be able to get pregnant."
