"Has she already awakened and sent you all to deceive me? She lied about having stomach cancer before and now she's a vegetable?!" Brett said angrily. "She wants to leave me, so she fabricated a lie about her imminent death, hoping I would let her go, but I won't fall for it again!"
The doctor took a step back, looking at his frantic state, rendered speechless for a moment.
"Mr. Windham," he started to say but stopped when Brett charged into the ICU room. He froze when he saw Izabella who looked like she was sleeping. There was a tube down her throat, an oxygen mask on her face, and a nasal cannula for assisted breathing. On the heart monitor, the line representing the heartbeat was extremely weak, almost approaching a straight line.
Brett nearly lost his balance, clutching the fabric of his shirt as he coughed up blood.
Was this really Izabella?
"I don't believe it, I won't believe it," Brett stumbled over to Izabella's bedside, it felt like his own heart was going to stop.
"Izabella, get up, stop pretending! You lied about having cancer before, and now this? Do you think I'm stupid? I won't believe you again!"
"Why won't you react? Open your eyes! You think a tube in your mouth makes you a vegetable?!" He tried to yank the tube out, causing a panic amongst the ICU staff who restrained him.
"Mr. Windham, what are you doing?!"
"Let go of me! I know she's fine, she's already woken up before! She can't have late-stage stomach cancer or be a vegetable!" Brett repeated over and over, even he himself did not know if he was trying to convince others or soothe himself with those words.
