Brett looked at Izabella's silent and pained expression, gave a bitter smile, and held her hand. After thinking for a while, he said, "Izabella, as long as you don't leave me, I'll respect any of your thoughts. I won't touch you and give you time till the day you really accept me."
Izabella was stunned and softly acknowledged. In her heart, she didn't reject Brett as much anymore.
"Did Liam say we've been married for five years? Do we have any kids?"
The word "kids" made Brett's heart twitch. Izabella had stomach cancer, and having a child would only worsen her condition. He couldn't let her take that risk or tell her about her disease, fearing she couldn't handle it.
After much thought, Brett said with a hoarse voice, "No, it's my fault. If you like children, we can adopt some in the future."
At first, Izabella thought they didn't have kids because Brett didn't want any, but after hearing the rest, she understood. She awkwardly said, "It's okay. We're still young, we can talk about having kids later."
"What about my family?"
Brett said, "You're an orphan. You don't have any relatives or friends."
Izabella opened her mouth, choked a bit, and murmured, "I don't have any relatives? Or friends?"
Her clear eyes were now misty, like foggy glass.
Feeling a pain in his heart, Brett hugged her and said, "I'm your family."
"So, how did we meet?" She pondered how she, an orphan, could have met Brett in her teens.
Brett was the number one on the wealth list, and they were from different worlds. How could they be together? Why would Brett marry her? Weren't wealthy families usually particular about being well-matched? Izabella couldn't help but think of a Cinderella story.
"Didn't Liam tell you? We met at a party."
"A school party?" Izabella asked.
"I guess."
"Would you take me to visit it when the time comes? I'd like to remember as soon as possible." Izabella looked up at him.
Brett remained silent, gazing affectionately at Izabella. Despite the clear-eyed Izabella standing before him, Brett suddenly saw a glimpse of the stubborn and cold Izabella from before.
The more one said, the more mistakes one made. It would become harder to explain later.
"Forget it if you don't remember. We can start over and meet new people."
"But I..."
