Twisted Ties of Love novel Chapter 44

Izabella said so much, but Brett just frowned at her.

Izabella went straight to tidy up the bedroom, comforting herself while doing so, thinking this jerk doesn't understand a word of what she was saying.

Brett saw Izabella pretty serious about organizing the room, he just didn't understand why she was still unhappy with the things he said.

He had promised to accompany her from now on, wasn't that her biggest wish before?

Brett naively thought Izabella saying she didn't like him was just a tantrum and that she'd be fine after being coaxed a bit.

They hadn't divorced yet, and if he treated her a little better, she'd definitely be as shameless and devoted to him as she used to be.

Brett's self-assurance bordered on arrogance. With a net worth exceeding 10 billion, his youthful accomplishments, and a handsome face that drove women wild, he saw little reason to find fault within himself. Apart from his detestable personality, he couldn't identify any major flaws. It was no wonder that his arrogance knew no bounds.

He lingered until evening before eventually preparing to depart. Brett had hoped to stay for dinner, but Izabella had opted for takeout instead.

Izabella placed the food on a small table positioned near the window and commenced eating at a leisurely pace, completely unaware of the slightly resentful gaze directed at her from behind.

Brett left. Hearing the sound of the door closing, Izabella put down her fork and got a glass of water.

She stood by the window, watching Brett's retreating figure. The dim streetlights elongated his shadow.

Seemingly feeling someone watching him, Brett suddenly turned his head. Izabella instinctively hid, then realized the window couldn't be seen from outside.

She drank some water, and by the time she put the glass down, Brett had disappeared into the night.

She and Brett were simply not meant to be. After all these years, Izabella had almost exhausted her love for him.

She had been too obsessed with the past events sixteen years ago, which made her overlook his true colors for so many years.

Izabella figured it was probably because she lacked love as a child, so she was eager to seek a love that didn't belong to her from Brett.

Sometimes she really envied Kaley, who easily got everything she had ever dreamed of.

She had liked Brett for sixteen years and pursued him wholeheartedly for six. In the end, she got nothing but stomach cancer and a broken family.

Love was a matter of personal will, so not being able to catch Brett meant she wasn't capable enough. Before, she thought it would be tough to give up on Brett, but now her feelings for him were slowly fading.

Forsaking him was just a momentary thing. She even found it hard to understand why she liked such a scumbag like Brett.

After deep thought, she realized that she'd simply taken the present Brett as a substitute for the boy she knew sixteen years ago.
