Twisted Ties of Love novel Chapter 66

Izabella was like a broken tape recorder, talking incoherently, perhaps even she didn't know what she was saying. Her mind was a mess, but her heart was even more chaotic.

Her words were like a few stones thrown into Brett's calm heart, stirring up ripples only to return to calm again in no time.

Brett's heart ached for some unknown reason, as he stared at Izabella, but Kaley's image appeared in his mind instead.

What was Izabella to him? Why would he be afraid of those hypothetical situations she raised?

Today was a sunny day, with bright sunlight shining through the windows, filling the entire ward with a cozy warmth. Even the gloominess in the corners seemed to have been swept away. Yet, despite the warmth, Brett broke out in a cold sweat.

Suddenly standing up, he grabbed Izabella's thin chin and mocked, "Trying to get me to let you go by playing the pity card? I don't know if your assumptions will come true, but you did something you shouldn't have. You think a few words can erase your mistakes?"

Izabella was stunned for a second, then laughed, "You figured it out?"

Izabella, half of her face in shadow, looked somewhat elusive as she faced the light.

Just as he thought! Brett felt relieved to have his suspicions confirmed. He wanted to teach her a lesson, but seeing her injured like a patched-up doll that seemed like it could fall apart with a single pull, he couldn't do it.

"Let's go."

Brett's lack of anger caught Izabella off guard. She nodded, picking up the bag of medicines - five bottles rattling inside.

"What are you carrying?"

Hospital stuff, of course, Brett obviously knew but asked anyway.

"Medicine. I ran out of stomach meds, and some supplements..."

Taking supplements too - just how weak had Izabella become? Brett remembered that she used to hate the taste of bitter medicine, preferring injections over taking pills. But now she had bought so many, apparently reaching a point of no choice.
