Everly's heart skipped a beat as she stopped in her tracks. "What did you see?"
"I saw you getting out of Marcus' car," Wayne confessed. "Why were you with him?"
The fact that Camille had posed as Hera and treated people under a false name put Wayne at odds with the Chime family. And ever since Hera exposed Camille's identity, the Chime family had been openly against Youngworth Miracle Clinic.
Fortunately, the clinic's reputation remained due to Hera's and Catherine's exceptional medical skills.
However, Priscilla had gone to the clinic to make sarcastic remarks to Catherine, which deepened Wayne's dislike for the Chime family. Despite being one of the four influential families, their behavior was despicable.
Wayne couldn't accept seeing Everly with Marcus, and his tone grew harsher.
"I..." Everly bit her lip as she avoided Wayne's gaze guiltily. "He just wanted some advice on herbs."
"You're still consulting them after everything the Chime family has done to Hera and Mrs. Jones? How could you betray Hera and Mrs. Jones like that?" Wayne reprimanded her.
Everly immediately grabbed his arm. "Wayne, please don't tell Hera about this, okay? She'll fire me if she finds out. I don't want to be separated from you and Mrs. Jones."
Seeing her on the verge of tears, Wayne couldn't bear to scold her further. But he still couldn't accept her betraying Hera. "Have you forgotten how Mom and Dad raised us? They taught us to be loyal and honest, especially to those who have shown us kindness."
Everly lowered her head in shame. "I'm sorry, I was wrong."
Seeing her so quick to admit her mistake, Wayne's gaze softened. "Promise me you won't contact them and you'll stay focused on working for Hera. If you do that, I won't tell her about tonight."
Everly felt a surge of frustration at this. She was Wayne's sister, yet he favored Hera over her.
