Skylar Holland hauled Coralie Chariott home and opened the door.
Valerie Rae was giving instructions to the servants who were arranging her things at home. When she heard the door opening, she hopped down the stairs. When she saw Skylar holding Coralie's hand, she was stunned for a moment but she soon regained her poise. She continued hopping towards him and greeted, "Skylar, you're back!"
Perhaps she was happy to see Skylar, or perhaps she had yet to get accustomed to walking on one foot, so when she was about to hop over the last step, she slipped...
And she fell into Skylar's arms.
Skylar secured her with his right hand reflexively, but his left hand never left Coralie's.
"Skylar, thank you."
Valerie was still lingering in Skylar's arms, showing no intention of getting up."
Coralie looked at them coldly but her heart was aching.
In the end, she simply shook Skylar's hand away and retorted, "I'm flattered that you have brought me here to witness your loving relationship, but I'm sorry, I still have other matters to attend to. I shall take my leave now."
Seeing that Coralie was about to hurry upstairs, Skylar glared at the servant next to him and said angrily, "Didn't you see that she almost fell? Why are you still standing there?"
The servants didn't expect that Skylar would be angry, so they rushed over to help Valerie up.
"Skylar, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have lost my balance. I shouldn't have made Miss Chariott unhappy," Like a child who had committed a mistake, Valerie stood up slowly with an embarrassed look over her face. She looked at the servants and asked, "Shall... shall I leave?"
"You should leave then!"
At that moment, Coralie really wanted to blurt those words out, but it was an undeniable fact that Valerie had saved her. She was torn in between her true wishes and her obligations to her presumed 'savior'.
She zipped her lips and trudged to the guest bedroom.
She just had to endure for one more night. Then, she would be free...
After this night, she would take her time to recover slowly.
......
Coralie was lying in the bedroom, tossing and turning about.
In less than half an hour, someone knocked on the door.
"Miss Chariott, Young Master Holland is requesting your presence at dinner downstairs."
It was the voice of a servant.
"Tell him that I'm not eating."
"Just come down here even if you're not eating!"
As soon as Coralie finished speaking, Skylar's voice rang out.
He knew that she would refuse to eat, so he came up to knock on her door personally.
Coralie ignored him. She really didn't want to go out. She didn't care what feelings Skylar bore for Valerie, but the current scenario was that Valerie was ill and she was Coralie's savior. No one could stand to offend her.
However, at this moment, his voice pealed from outside, "You stay here. I'll get the spare key."
Although the door could be locked from the inside, it could also be unlocked from the outside with a key.
Hearing this, Coralie immediately opened the door, "That's not necessary, I'll come out now."
After that, she went downstairs before him.
A few dishes were sprawled over on the dining table downstairs. There was also fresh watermelon juice. It was indeed an assorted menu for a dinner.
Valerie was already sitting in a wheelchair by the table. When she saw Coralie making her way downstairs, she smiled sweetly, "Miss Chariott, you're here."
Coralie looked at Valerie. She really wanted to know whether the incident was truly an accident or if it was a plot that Valerie was concocting.
Thinking how she hadn't thanked Valerie for saving herself that day, she uttered, "Miss Rae, thank you for saving me that day. You ended up losing one of your legs. I am really sorry."
Her gratitude sounded sincere. She had decided to presume the accident to be unplanned and keep her suspicions away from the light of the day.
