"Miss Chariott."
After the call was connected, Queenie was able to recognize her because she had saved her number in her phone.
"Auntie Holland, are you able to get in touch with Jamie? My brother said that he hasn't been able to contact Jamie for the past two days. He's worried that something might have happened to Jamie."
Until then, Coralie still hadn't veered her thought into the worst of situations. She didn't think that Jamie's disappearance had anything to do with her family.
"Jamie is at home."
When Queenie heard Coralie ask about Jamie, she answered it nonchalantly. It seemed that Coralie's worries were unnecessary.
When Queenie said that Jamie was at home, Coralie exhaled deeply and replied, "Thank God. I was worried something might have happened to her."
Queenie heard that Coralie was so nervous about Jamie, so she smiled and said, "Miss Chariott, since you've called me first, please tell your brother to not contact Jamie before he decides to break up with her. Jamie is not allowed to step out of the house before she breaks up with him."
"I don't understand."
"Miss Chariott, didn't I make myself clear enough?"
Queenie said.
Only then did Coralie realize that Wayne's concerns were actually true.
Queenie had actually grounded Jamie and locked her in the house.
"Auntie Holland, I think this kind of thing..." Coralie pleaded.
"Miss Chariott, it may not be a big deal to cancel an engagement for a poor family like yours. However, in a family like ours, this is the most significant of all. Don't contact me until your brother decided on it."
After saying that, Queenie hung up the phone pointedly.
Coralie was stunned while she heard the 'beep' sound on the other side of the phone.
She was still laughing at Wayne for thinking too much yesterday.
She thought that it was impossible for Jamie's mother to resort to such a thing, but now it seemed that she was the one who was being too naive.
"Dear, are you all fine?"
Skylar suddenly knocked on the door from outside and asked.
"I'm alright. I'm coming out right now," she replied.
Coralie knew that she had been in the bathroom for too long and it caused Skylar to worry.
She quickly opened the door and came out.
Skylar was in front of the door. He had actually heard the conversation between Coralie and Queenie through the door. However, he did not reveal it. Instead, he asked her, "What's wrong? Who were you calling?"
"Well, I just called Jamie's mother."
Coralie did not intend to hide anything from Skylar.
In fact, the reason for Jamie to be grounded by her family couldn't be deflected from her and Wayne.
"What did she say?"
Skylar could see that Coralie's face was plastered with worry. He knew that something must have happened.
He was Queenie's nephew.
Thus, he knew his aunt well, and of course, he understood Jamie too.
"Jamie was grounded by her family."
Coralie came clean to Skylar. She said in a very remorseful tone, "It's all Wayne's fault. He's such a slowpoke!"
"Queenie said that the engagement has been set in stone and the cancellation of the marriage will affect their reputation."
"Let me call her,"
Skylar said.
With Skylar's status, if he was willing to back Wayne and Jamie up, Queenie and Jamie's father would definitely concede to him no matter what.
Coralie saw Skylar pick up the phone and was about to make a call. She quickly snatched his phone and said, "Forget it. Leave this matter to Wayne. If he always needs someone to help him with his own happiness, then he'd better not chase after Jamie anymore."
What's more, Coralie knew that if Wayne got together with Jamie, his future would be no less difficult than it was now.
He couldn't always run to Skylar for help, could he?
"Okay, it's up to you."
Skylar knew how stubborn Coralie was. She would never ask anyone for help with what she could do herself. Skylar also understood why she was unwilling to cut Wayne some slack.
