Monte’s head instantly exploded.
Never in his wildest dreams did he think that things would work out that way. He had been under the impression that he had managed to approach the Jeffs family solely based on his competence.
In the past year, he had been gloating over his ability, and seeing that Chester was crippled, he found himself much more brilliant than Chester.
Little did he expect that he would be the one falling into other people’s trap instead.
Monte glared at Charity with his red eyes. “Eliza, why are you doing this to me? All I did was let you down. When we were in a relationship, I treated you well and made you very happy. If not for your poor family background, I would’ve married you. Isn’t it normal for adults to get together and split? At least I didn’t betray you when we were together. However, because of you, I was infected with HIV. Since I’ve received the punishment I deserved, why must you be so cruel? You’re wicked.”
He looked at Charity as though she were a monster. “Chester, isn’t it frightening to be with a woman like that? If you break up with her, she’ll ruin your family.”
Chester laughed. “Thanks to your family, my family has been dragged into the mess. I believe my dad will be reunited with you in jail. What else is there for her to ruin?”
Monte was stunned, but a second later, what Chester said chilled him to the marrow. “Both of you are indeed a perfect match. You’re so vicious that you can go as far as throwing your parents under the bus for this woman’s sake.”
“Enough, Monte. Don’t think I don’t think that this crippled leg of mine has something to do with your family.” Chester touched his unfeeling prosthetic leg. “The day Huxley hit Eliza with a car, it was the Pattersons who incited him to do it and then shifted the blame to Eliza. You wanted to get rid of Eliza with Huxley’s help. You knew full well that Huxley couldn’t be triggered as he was on drugs.”
Monte shuddered and said furiously, “It was because Eliza wanted to destroy the reputation of my family’s hotel business. I just did that as a counterattack.”
Charity could not be bothered to speak to him. “Huxley has been shot dead, so you’re luckier than him for being able to live a blissful life for a year. I hope you’ll enjoy your life in jail.”
Chester hit the brakes as soon as he arrived at the entrance of the police station.
Then, he looked back and said with a smile, “We’ve arrived at the police station.”
