Charity withdrew her hand. “Drive carefully.”
Just as Chester was about to change gears, his phone rang.
He glanced at the notification of the incoming call, and a trace of sarcasm flashed across his eyes.
“Answer it.” Charity picked up his phone for him and tapped the ‘answer’ button. Then, the sound of Madam Jewell’s weeping rang out.
“Chester, hurry up and come home. I don’t know why, but your dad has been taken away. They claimed he was involved in corruption and gambling. How could your dad have done these things?”
“You’re looking for the wrong person. You should look for Cindy. She’s a good family member of yours,” Chester said derisively.
“Don’t behave like this, Chester. That girl isn’t picking up my calls, so I can only rely on you right now. Your dad can’t go to jail. Those old friends of his aren’t picking up my calls too.” Madam Jewell said tearfully, “If you don’t come home now, I’ll hit my head against the wall and kill myself.”
“Why don’t you go and take a look?” Charity asked.
Madam Jewell asked, “Who is that? Who is talking beside you? Is it Charity? Both of you–”
“If you dare tell me off, you’ll never see me again,” Chester immediately interrupted her. He seemed to know what his mother wanted to say.
Madam Jewell immediately went quiet. All she did was continue weeping bitterly on the other end.
“I’ll come over in a moment.” Once Chester ended the call, he turned around and asked Charity, “Are you willing to come along?”
Charity nodded. “Do you want to call Ken back?”
