Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 645

Yuna watched as Frederick and Marguerite's figures grew smaller in the distance outside the hospital room. Her expression twisted into one of intense malice.

Penelope stepped directly in front of Yuna, looking down at her with an imposing presence, and demanded, "Tell me, what exactly happened with the factory fire? Isn't it quite the coincidence? Of all days, you chose today to go to the countryside for some soup. And just minutes after the fire started, you already knew about it. Don't you think that's a bit too convenient?"

Hackett, who had never raised his voice to his wife, couldn't contain his anger this time. "Penelope, enough! Are you really going to suspect Yuna just because of Marguerite? Yuna is your flesh and blood, the daughter you searched for relentlessly for twenty-five years! She's barely been home a fortnight, and Marguerite stirs up all this trouble. Instead of standing by your own daughter, you're taking Marguerite's side! I swear, you've been brainwashed by that girl!"

Penelope listened to her husband raise his voice, accusing her with all his might, and her heart felt heavy. Yes, it had been less than a month since Yuna returned home, and the Fitzgerald family had been plunged into chaos. Had he forgotten that before Yuna's arrival, they had been the envy of the elite, a picture-perfect family? And now? Chaos reigned supreme! Didn't she want to support her own daughter? If it weren't for the mess her daughter had caused, would she be so harsh? She felt she had neglected Marguerite! After all, the victim in all these unfortunate events was that poor, pitiable young girl. So, who was the one being brainwashed? Couldn't Hackett see the truth?

With a heavy heart, Penelope watched as Yuna continued to play the victim, "Mom, I swear, I had nothing to do with this! If I had instructed my assistant to set the fire, why would I risk my life to save the day? I did it because I knew all of that represented your hard work! That's why I ran into danger without a second thought! Mom, can't you see how much I've given to the company?"

Yuna wept bitterly, but Penelope was unmoved by the performance. She shot back, "You weren't even in charge of that project. Even if the factory was ablaze, they shouldn't have called you. How did you get the news so quickly?"

Sniffling, Yuna lied without batting an eyelid, "The manager tried to call Marguerite first but couldn't reach her. That's why they called me. They said I should try to get in touch with Marguerite, but when I heard about the fire, how could I think of anything else? I forgot all about calling her! Mom, please believe me."

Yuna continued to dab at her tears, and Hackett's heart went out to her. He immediately sat on the edge of her bed and enveloped her in his arms, "Don't cry, Yuna. If your mother doesn't believe you, your father does! Someone like Marguerite shouldn't stay with the company if she can't be reached in critical moments. Does she even care about the project at all?"

Hidden in Hackett's embrace, Yuna's tears flowed, but her clenched teeth betrayed her deep-seated hatred for Marguerite. "I've always said Marguerite was trouble. We should have cut her out!"

Upon hearing Yuna's words, Penelope felt even more suffocated and scolded loudly, "Cut her out? Did you not see Frederick's reaction? Dare to cut Marguerite out, and do you think he'll let you off the hook? Enough with the drama, give it a rest!"

Once again rebuked, Yuna glared at Penelope, her eyes filled with resentment and a tinge of hatred. She simply couldn't understand; she carried Hackett's blood. She was the legitimate heir to the Fitzgerald fortune! Why did Penelope always seem to defend others over her?

And every time she thought about it, Yuna became even more perplexed. Zoe and Ablett had clearly told her that the child taken from the Fitzgeralds was Marguerite. Yet, a second DNA test showed that she, too, shared a blood connection with Hackett. Could the DNA tests have been tampered with again? That seemed impossible! They had watched the results come out—there was no opportunity for deception. It seemed she needed to find the right moment to confront Zoe about the whole confusing affair.
