Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 646

Meanwhile, inside the Maybach.

The weather outside was abysmal, with snow swirling amidst a dense fog, reducing visibility to almost nothing. The driver, Hank, had no choice but to slow down to a crawl, cautiously navigating through the whiteout.

Next to him, a man held a tablet in one hand, seemingly engrossed in his work. The glow from the screen illuminated his striking features – chiseled, noble, and profound. He was distractingly handsome, and Maggie found herself sneaking glances at him, unable to help herself.

She was still reeling from his reaction back at the hospital. Frederick, the same man who now sat beside her, was offering her a job at Thunderbolt Enterprises. Although he hadn't explained why, Maggie couldn't shake the feeling that he didn't want her to suffer any longer at Poppy Petal Fragrances. But why?

Had Frederick always been this kind-hearted?

Unable to contain her curiosity, Maggie turned to him and asked, "Are you serious about letting me work for your company?"

Her voice broke the silence, melodic and pleasing to the ear.

Frederick set down his tablet and met her gaze, but he didn't speak.

Maggie felt a shiver run down her spine under the intensity of his deep eyes. She blurted out, "Have you had a change of heart?"

His expression fell instantly.

A change of heart? Was that even a thing people said?

Up front, Hank couldn't help but let out a snort of laughter, a sound that seemed out of place. He quickly covered his mouth.

The already awkward atmosphere tensed even more with Hank's chuckle. Maggie felt a twinge of annoyance.

"Hank, what's so funny?" she demanded.

Without much thought, Hank explained with a smile, "Maggie, do you enjoy playing the martyr? When Mr. Winston was cold to you, you were unhappy. Now that he's being kind, you start questioning his motives?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, Hank realized he might have spoken out of turn and quickly glanced at Frederick's expression, expecting displeasure. To his surprise, he found a hint of amusement instead, as if Frederick was affirming his words.
