Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 648

Chuck's casual remark seemed to alleviate the brooding mood of the man before him, if only for a fleeting moment. Yet, in the very next second, the man's displeasure returned with force. For the past few days, he had been holed up at Poppy Petal Fragrances, keeping close company with Marguerite. And with Miley, it was as if they were joined at the hip, barely spending a moment apart. So how on earth could Chuck know more about Marguerite than he did?

Frederick fixed Chuck with a meaningful stare. His voice was calm yet carried a weighty undertone as he inquired, “Why would Miley discuss Marguerite’s affairs with you?”

Chuck: “???”

Why did Mr. Winston sound so darn sour? No way! Was he, a mere subordinate, now the subject of Mr. Winston's jealousy? Chuck glanced nervously at the imposing man before him, finding the situation utterly surreal. He attempted to mask his discomfort with a laugh, “Ah, we were just shooting the breeze, and the conversation turned to her. Rest assured, Mr. Winston, I have absolutely no intention of prying into Marguerite’s personal life!”

Chuck's reassurance was purely to steady the man's mood. The truth was that when Robert and Chuck had played cupid at the office, and Miley later joined their efforts, they had simply created a group chat for convenience. Any progress between Marguerite and Frederick would be reported in the chat with a quick ping. But they seldom discussed Maurice, as he was known for his discretion, leaving little to no trail in his dealings. Even when they did talk, they could hardly make heads or tails of his actions. Miley's mention of Maurice's suspicious marriage pressure on Marguerite stemmed from Chuck's frequent visits to the Winston Mansion, hoping he would keep a closer eye on Maurice.

After saying his piece, Chuck watched Frederick, trying to gauge whether the man believed him. Just as he was about to clarify further, Frederick’s piercing and compelling gaze landed on Chuck. “Check his billing statements.”

Chuck stood dumbfounded for a moment, taking a while to grasp the suggestion. Mr. Winston was actually giving them a tip! Investigate Maurice's billing statements? The idea was pure genius! There's an old saying: where a man's money goes, there his heart follows. Perhaps Maurice's bills were the key to unraveling the mystery. Who knows? They might actually dig up something substantial.

The following morning dawned. Marguerite rose early and headed straight for Teresa's room. With the whirlwind of recent events, she hadn’t had the chance to attend to the little one’s portrait project. Today she was going to check on their progress.

Expecting Teresa to be still asleep, Marguerite pushed the door open without a second thought. To her surprise, she found Teresa and Hayes, both with their butts in the air, leaning on their elbows, staring intently at a piece of A4 paper on the floor. From a distance, the paper, filled with illustrations and text, resembled a medical report. The two little ones were absorbed in this odd position, exchanging troubled glances, a sight both hilarious and endearing.

Scattered around the room were shreds of paper, each fragment featuring wildly drawn facial features. The room was in a state of chaos. But the children were so captivated that they failed to notice Marguerite’s entrance.

“What are you two doing up so early?” Marguerite's gentle voice finally reached them, causing the little ones to jump as if startled. Teresa quickly scrambled to her feet, positioning herself in front of Marguerite as a shield, while Hayes unceremoniously sat down on the A4 paper, hiding it from view.
