Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 650

Teresa's face was a picture of panic as she quickly turned to Hayes, who was awkwardly trying to conceal a piece of paper under him. It was the DNA test results that could confirm the parental link between her and her dad!

How did her mom notice their little scheme so quickly?

Desperately, Teresa tried to signal Hayes to come up with some story to distract her mom.

But Hayes, usually so calm and collected, was now squirming uncomfortably with his legs tightly pressed together, and even wiggled his little behind.

What on earth?

Why was Hayes so nervous all of a sudden? Was he really that spooked by Mom?

Marguerite, by now, had sauntered over to Hayes and crouched down, extending her arm and opening her hand, motioning for Hayes to hand over whatever he was hiding.

"Honey, just show Auntie what you've got there," she cooed.

Hayes, his face as red as a tomato, stubbornly shook his head: "No... I can't..."

Teresa was baffled.

What was wrong with Hayes? Why was his voice trembling so much?

"Why can't you, sweetie? Did Auntie guess right? Are you hiding something naughty?"

Hayes pouted, "Auntie Marguerite... we're not doing anything bad... really..."

Marguerite wasn't about to let the little guy off the hook and pressed on:

"If you're not doing anything wrong, then why can't you show Auntie what's under your bottom?"

"Because... because..."

Hayes was a bundle of nerves, lifting his eyelids, and desperately seeking Teresa's gaze.

His eyes were a mixture of pitiful and wronged.

Teresa, no longer concerned with Hayes's unusual reaction, blurted out in desperation:

"Because Hayes has his privacy too! Under his bottom is his report card from last semester, and he didn't do well. It needs a parent's signature! He's scared to show it to his dad, so we were just figuring out what to do!"

Teresa rattled off her explanation without taking a breath, nearly suffocating in the process.

Marguerite stared at Teresa, who was gasping for air, clearly skeptical: "Really?"

She knew among the three kids at home, Hayes was the brightest.

How bad must his grades be for him to be so secretive?

Teresa nodded vigorously, "Really, really! Mom, please don't ask anymore, you'll make Hayes cry! I just got him calmed down, any more questions and you'll really hurt him!"

Marguerite looked at Hayes's tearful face, unaware of the turmoil he was experiencing.
