Shivering and trembling, Yuna's voice faltered as she accused, "I...I knew it, you're not human! You're a ghost! It was my mom, she's taken over you! Her spirit merged with yours, and then she told you everything, didn't she?"
In her frightened state, Yuna inadvertently confessed, revealing herself as the one who had killed Penelope. But she frantically clung to Hackett's arm, screaming, "Dad! Violet's a ghost! She's haunting us! You've got to call someone to take her away!"
Hackett looked at Yuna with a complex gaze, while Violet calmly approached her. "Ms. Lockwood, I'll say it again, there are no ghosts in this world, only guilt," Violet said with conviction.
Robert was the first to snap back, "What do you mean by that? Is my mom still alive?"
Yuna turned pale, "Brother, don't listen to her nonsense! How could mom still be alive? She always liked to play those spooky pranks to scare us!"
"If you've got nothing to hide, Violet won't scare you one bit!" a voice suddenly echoed from afar, clear and sharp.
Margaret instinctively looked over and saw the figure, flanked by officers led by Ms. Abbey, making their way towards them.
Penelope! She wasn't dead! She looked just as Margaret remembered her. Dressed in a cream-colored dress with a royal blue jacket and a bright yellow scarf around her neck. Her clothes looked pristine!
Margaret blinked hard, half-convinced she was hallucinating. But when she opened her eyes again, Penelope was still walking steadily towards them.
Ms. Abbey announced loudly, "Yuna, you're under arrest for suspicion of murder. Hands up!"
But Yuna ignored Abbey's command, her gaze fixated on Penelope, and she slumped to the ground. "A ghost! Stay away! Please, stay away! Haven't you done enough? I was just trying to pay my respects at your grave, why are you doing this to me?"
Penelope smiled gently at Yuna, "My dear girl, are you that afraid of me?"
Yuna blurted out in panic, "I'm not your daughter! Stay away! It's not my fault you're dead!"
"Oh? Is that so?" Penelope's voice was soft yet chilling to Yuna.
Convinced that Penelope was a specter, Yuna kept her head buried in her arms, unwilling to look up.
Robert was the first to snap out of it, staggering over to Penelope and cupping her face with trembling hands. "Am I...am I dreaming? Mom...you're okay? You're really okay?"
Penelope's smile was heartwarming, "Am I not standing right here before you?"
Relief washed over Robert as he pulled Penelope into an embrace. During the funeral, Robert had held back his tears, not wanting to worry his mother. But now, seeing Penelope safe and sound, the overwhelming emotions brought tears streaming down his face.
Hackett, too, stood frozen, wiping away tears of confusion, murmuring, "Am I seeing things? Penelope was wearing this very outfit when she left that day!"
