Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 757

So, he played his hand, making Frederick marry her, hoping to tie the man down completely with a woman's charm.

But as he eavesdropped from the shadows, listening to their exchanges through a surveillance app, witnessing Frederick's concessions to Marguerite time and again, he knew his scheme was nearing success.

Yet, why did he find himself seething with jealousy and losing control?

For the first time, he felt a possessive desire for Marguerite. So much so, he lied, claiming he had slept with her and that she was carrying his child.

But the harsh truth was, she had never been his.

His obsession with possessing Marguerite nearly became an all-consuming fixation.

Did he ever love Marguerite?

Was what he felt for Marguerite truly love?

Maurice couldn't say.

After a long silence, Frederick offered a mocking smile: “Your hesitation tells me everything. You never loved her.”

As the cigarette burned down to the filter, Frederick flicked it away, looking squarely at Maurice, “The deal's been signed. I expect you to keep your word and let me take Teresa back home.”

With those final words, Frederick turned to leave.

The bodyguards emerged from the shadows, the sound of their guns cocking sharp and clear.

“Frederick!” Maurice called out.

The man turned, only to see Maurice drawing a pistol, “Did you ever love Marguerite?”

The answer required no thought.

Just as Frederick was about to respond, Maurice cut him off decisively:

“Think carefully before you answer. If you say you don't love her, I'll let you leave.”

Frederick stood his ground, showing not even a trace of fear.

“Maurice, you're deluding yourself even in my presence? If I say I don’t love her, would you believe me?”

Maurice raised his pistol, its barrel a menacing beast aimed straight at Frederick's chest.

He said, “Just say it, and I’ll believe you. And you'll leave here unharmed.”
