Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 758

The expected gunshot never came.

Frederick didn’t even open his eyes, just silently waiting for Maurice to pull the trigger.

He didn’t need to see to know the look of disbelief Maurice must be wearing.

A pathetic self-deception.

He was threatening his own life, forcing himself to utter words that went against his heart.

All because he had never felt love, nor did he believe that in this world, someone could give up everything for it.

Even their life.

But he was different.

Eighteen years ago, when Marguerite saved his life with a simple loaf of bread, his fate had been irrevocably tied to hers.

His gratitude turned into love over those eighteen years.

Fifteen years spent searching for her, and the last three filled with hate, regret, injury, and pain.

But all those emotions paled in comparison to his love.

So, what was giving up his life for her in the grand scheme of things?

He welcomed it with open arms!

A breeze began to stir, tousling Frederick’s disheveled hair.

The surrounding silence made everyone uneasy, but Frederick had never felt so calm.

His calm, however, was short-lived. Suddenly, he heard an unexpected childish voice.

"Are... are you guys playing make-believe? Daddy Maurice, is that a real gun or a toy? Can you put it down, please? I'm scared..."

Frederick’s eyes flew open, and he turned towards the entrance of the rooftop, where Teresa stood, her face a picture of panic.

“Stay back! Get out!” he barked, his eyes filled with concern and fear.

Maurice, however, holstered his pistol and turned towards Teresa, kneelingly opening his arms to her.

“It's okay, sweetie, don’t be scared. Come to daddy.”

Teresa clung to the doorframe, trembling.

She hesitantly looked at Frederick, noticing the bodyguards behind him, menacing and armed with weapons far more powerful than a pistol.
