But Maggie didn't want to make their parting too somber, so she teased Violet to lighten the mood.
"I hear you, I've got it all figured out. But when are you gonna introduce your boyfriend to us? You jumped straight from dating to engagement. Is he reliable? I remember you saying you haven't met him that many times, right?"
Maggie meant it as a joke to brighten the atmosphere, but Violet took it to heart.
Her face changed color, and her eyes betrayed a hint of guilt.
"Can't I get married just because we haven't met much? It's not like I don't want to see him; I'm just swamped with work! We video chat every day."
She was busy with work, but was her partner also too busy for in-person meetings?
In the office, it wasn't uncommon to see young lovebirds, with boyfriends often picking up their girlfriends after work.
But looking at Violet, her boyfriend had never once picked her up or dropped her off.
Maggie saw through it but didn't press the matter, patting her hand and saying lightly, "Alright then, I'll be looking forward to your wedding toast."
Violet walked away somewhat displeased, but Maggie took her reaction in stride, attributing it to youthful temperament.
That afternoon.
Chuck came in with a folder in his hands, reporting, "Maggie, Thunderbolt Enterprises, owned by Mr. Winston, has been acquired by Maurice. Here's the contract, just signed."
Maggie glanced at the contract without surprise.
Six months ago, Frederick had inked a deal on wafer technology with a hacker, and after his passing, only Maurice had the means to continue fulfilling it.
Maggie had known all along that Maurice had been coveting wafer technology. With Frederick gone, he wouldn't miss such an opportunity.
So, he blatantly acquired Thunderbolt Enterprises and openly partnered with the hacker.
