Chuck's hand paused mid-air as he was about to take a sip of his water.
Just the thought of Mr. Winston was enough to dampen even Chuck's usually carefree spirit.
He set down his coffee mug, his tone turning earnest.
"I just got off the phone with a couple of my contacts in the trading circles, people who've had dealings with Silas. They all say he handles business strikingly similar to Mr. Winston.
Decisive and bold, yet his methods are even more ruthless, not as hesitant as Mr. Winston could sometimes be.
It's just, Mr. Winston was too loyal, too sentimental. Made some bad deals out of friendship.
But Silas seems to lack that kind of emotional attachment, making his decisions all the more cutthroat. To use an imperfect analogy, it's like Silas is an upgraded version of Mr. Winston."
It was rare for Chuck to praise someone like this.
In his eyes, Frederick was always the ultimate man.
But his lavish praise today proved just how impressive Silas truly was.
This revelation somewhat surprised Marguerite.
Yet, every mention of Silas brought her back to the events of the morning, leaving her feeling suffocated with regret.
She stubbornly believed it was her near betrayal of Frederick that made thoughts of Silas so painful.
Shaking herself out of these thoughts, she forced her focus back to work to dull the ache, not allowing her mind to wander.
Regaining her composure, she turned to Chuck.
"Speaking of which, help me find an apartment to rent. Let Hayes and Manley look after it for a few days."
At the mention of Hayes and Manley, Chuck couldn't help but press his hands against his forehead, a look of exasperation crossing his face.
Those two were a handful!
Hayes was manageable, but Manley was a real troublemaker, always wanting to buy everything in sight, making Chuck's wallet weep.
