Bella could hear the hint of grievance in Dominic's voice. She resigned herself as she tugged at his suit sleeve, trying to appease him. "I was genuinely busy. I planned to call you after my shift. I still have half an hour left… Can you wait for me?"
Dominic was stubborn as ever, and he didn't relent. "I'll wait at your place. Come straight home after work."
Bella felt a bit thrown. When had she allowed him such freedom to come and go? Why did she always seem to be pulled along by him?
If one said he was clueless in romance, he had this way of pulling someone in so effortlessly. However, if one called him a master of the game, that didn't quite fit either because he had a knack for driving people crazy.
As soon as her shift ended, Bella drove home. She knew better than to keep Dominic waiting, especially when he was in one of his moods.
The moment she opened the door, she found him on the couch, sulking and roughly handling her teddy bear pillow.
She hurried over, grabbing it back protectively. "What are you doing? You're going to wear it out."
Dominic pulled her into his arms, holding her close. "People in your department say you and Ethan are… beyond friendly terms. No wonder he's always so eager to help you out."
She was awkwardly seated on his lap, struggling a bit. "You're seriously gossipy. Just one quick walk around and you've already sniffed out the rumors? You're wasting your talents in business… You should consider being a spy."
Dominic stayed silent with a dark expression, looking as if he were seconds away from devouring her.
Bella regained her calm and said bluntly, "We've broken up, remember? Who I see now is none of your business, Mr. Miller. Seriously, you're too free… Can't you find something better to think about?"
Out of nowhere, Dominic leaned in and bit her shoulder. She yelped in surprise, "Are you a dog or something?"
Not missing a beat, he warned her, "Stop bringing up the breakup. Did I say it was over? I've let you run wild for too long, haven't I? As for Ethan, what's he got that's better than me? If you're going to look for someone else, at least find someone better. Always go for a better one, not worse, understand?"
