Since he felt guilty, Dominic behaved himself the entire night.
The next morning, Cara was about to head out to get groceries when she let out a startled scream. Then, she hurriedly shut the door again.
Upon hearing the commotion, Dominic put a shirt on and headed outside. "What's wrong?"
She pointed at the door and said, "Someone is sleeping at the doorstep with a bunch of bags. Could it be Ms. Jones' father?"
Dominic frowned as he opened the door to take a look. It was indeed Simon. He was sleeping in front of the door with all of his belongings like a homeless person.
Dominic was starting to question his decision. Had he been too harsh with Simon? If Simon were still basking in his former glory, he wouldn't have shown up at their doorstep like this.
Despite being fast asleep, Dominic was still woken up by the commotion. On the other hand, Simon didn't even move an inch.
"Hey. Wake up," Dominic walked forward and called out.
Simon was still.
"Is he dead?" Cara asked softly.
There was no way Dominic was letting something like that happen at Bella's doorstep. He immediately reached forward to check if Simon was breathing. The man was still alive. He just didn't look sound.
Dominic promptly took out his phone and dialed 911. It was better to leave such matters to the hospital.
He had just ended the call when Bella walked out of the bedroom. "What's going on? Why are you two standing at the door?" she asked groggily.
Cara didn't dare to respond. Dominic paused before saying, "Your father is at the door. He doesn't look very well. I already called 911."
