Simon didn't use the money to start a company. Instead, he used it on stock gambling. He ended up losing every single cent in a short amount of time.

The pitiful state he was in was also a made-up front. He was still married. His wife's family still had a property that was worth more than a million dollars. The deed was currently in the hands of his father-in-law. In conclusion, he was choosing to leech off of Bella despite having somewhere else to go.

More than two hours later, the surgery was complete. Simon was escorted back to his hospital ward. Dominic arranged for him to stay in a private ward. He even got him a private nurse and paid for all the expenses.

Simon was pretending to be asleep when Dominic exposed him. "Since it was a minor procedure, they only gave you local anesthesia. Let's talk."

Simon unwillingly opened his eyes and averted his gaze. "What's there to talk about? My wife is asking for a divorce, but I'm refusing. She'll be taking me to court soon. I'm suffering enough as it is. Yet she's choosing to add insult to injury. I hate to look for Bella, but I want to live…"

Dominic scoffed. "There are plenty of ways for you to live, yet you decided to doom yourself. When I gave you 1.5 million dollars, I told you to never show yourself in front of Bella ever again. You've gone back on your word."

Simon inhaled sharply. "I'm her father!"

Simon was right. Since he was Bella's father, Dominic couldn't just get rid of him.

Unwilling to waste any time on him, Dominic asked, "What do you want? What's it going to take for you to disappear from her life forever?"

Simon didn't respond immediately. It seemed like he was analyzing Dominic and testing the waters.

Two minutes felt like an eternity. After careful deliberation, Simon said cautiously, "After I went bankrupt, my wife's family has been looking down on me and forcing me to get a divorce. I'd like a chance to regain my dignity and be self-reliant…"

His implications were clear. He wanted something better than 1.5 million dollars.
