She had never seen Ian so pissed off before.

She lowered her lashes, following silently behind Samuel.

It wasn't until they reached a brighter area that Samuel faintly saw the marks on her neck.

He felt a bit uneasy. "Ian did this?"

Maja got in the car, her throat too sore to even speak.

"Yeah."

"He's cold-hearted toward his own wife."

Maja gave a bitter smile. She, who had been arguing just a while ago, now found herself at a loss for words. Her heart was sour.

"Penny, don't say I didn't warn you. Ian might seem all high and mighty, but he's got a temper. No one in Greenfield dares to cross him. You know why?"

Maja didn't speak; she just silently touched her throat.

"Anyone who can make a name for himself on Wall Street and in Silicon Valley in just three years is no angel. People in these two places are nuts, and they look down on each other. But he's swimming like a fish in both waters. To be honest, me and my buddies sometimes wonder if he's sitting on a pile of dough. He's cold to himself, even colder to others.
