Eileen jerked her hand away and shot Egbert a glare before turning on her heel and storming out.
No sooner had she left than Maloney came running up to her, excitement in his voice. "Got her!"
Eileen's eyes lit up. "You caught that woman?"
The slums were a stark contrast to the world outside. Outside was the realm of normalcy, but inside was a lawless land of chaos and survival of the fittest, a place where even the bravest souls found themselves helpless.
When Eileen reached the main square, she saw a man with Asian features being held down by a group of rough-looking locals, unable to move.
Seeing Maloney approach, the locals dragged the man up by his hair for inspection.
This was no sidekick; this was one of the accomplices they were after!
The man was already beaten to a pulp. The underworld of the slums didn't hold back; they went for the kill.
The thought of nearly losing his life in a dilapidated building earlier filled Maloney with a fierce rage, and he pulled out his gun, ready to end the man then and there!
Egbert was about to intervene.
This man was also an agent of Silverland, and they needed him alive!
But before Egbert could move, Eileen suddenly slapped Maloney right on his bald head.
Maloney: "..."
Egbert: "..."
With that slap, the entire square fell into an eerie silence.
Whether it was Maloney's men, other factions present, or locals sneaking peeks from hidden corners, everyone held their breath.
Maloney, having been humiliated in front of everyone, swallowed his anger and looked down, obediently awaiting Eileen's command.
"Alive! Did I say to shoot him?" Eileen's cold voice broke the silence.
Grinding his teeth, Maloney holstered his gun without a word.
Egbert: "?"
Eileen then turned to Egbert, her brow furrowing. "Do you know him?"
Egbert responded gravely, "Codename Torrent."
Nodding, Eileen asked, "Can we get the advance team to come in and take him? Can we redeem ourselves with this capture?"
Egbert surveyed the surroundings. In a square filled with over two hundred people, at least a hundred and eighty were notorious criminals.
If these locals attacked their military personnel, the advance team, being outnumbered, couldn't guarantee a safe retreat.
Eileen, seeing Egbert taking his time pondering, cut in impatiently, "Forget it, just get him out. But remember, I get the credit."
She randomly picked two of her more presentable men. "You two, take this man to the marketplace outside. Tie him up and leave him by the roadside, and hang a sign on him."
Her subordinate, meekly asking, "What should the sign say?"
Eileen instructed, "Free agent for pickup, write it in Chinese."
Subordinate: "?"
Egbert: "..."
With a hint of hesitation, Maloney quickly urged, "What are you waiting for? Go!"
The subordinates reluctantly went to prepare the sign.
Eileen then looked around, wondering, "Where are Tyne and Hessa?"
Earlier, the three big bosses had gone out to capture their targets. Maloney had caught one; Tyne and Hessa should have caught theirs too.
Maloney, eager to throw shade, shook his head. "Haven't seen them."
Eileen had the upper hand over Maloney because of his deep-seated fear of the Bloodbane Shadowsociety. He dared not defy the commands of Eileen, the envoy from this feared organization.
However, Tyne and Hessa had no concept of the Bloodbane Shadowsociety's power. They knew Eileen was influential and ruthless, but as leaders in their own right, they were not easily intimidated.
Their men had followed Eileen's orders because their bosses were at her mercy.
Now that Tyne and Hessa were free, and after the chaos, they had vanished without a trace, obviously having made their escape.
After searching to no avail, Eileen chuckled lightly.
Then, she pulled out her phone and pressed a button.
The next second.
"Boom!"
