Despicable Mate novel Chapter 5

KEVIN’S POV

I was waiting for my drink when I sensed someone’s stare. The urge to turn around and look was so strong, almost as if I was drawn by an invisible force.

I sucked in my breath when my eyes landed on the gorgeous girl in front of me. She was the one who had dominated my thoughts all this while. In the long, black gown she looked like the moon goddess had descended on earth wrapped in the star-studded sky.

I walked towards her as if my body had a mind of its own. I inhaled deeply as the distinct fragrance of pine and cherries assaulted me. The scent calmed and comforted an ache in my heart which I didn’t know was present.

Four words popped in my mind the moment our eyes met, ‘Mate, love, protect, honor.’

The urge to hold her in my arms was so great that I couldn’t restrain myself from pulling her into an embrace.

The moment I hugged her, contentment and bliss washed over me. It was as if I had found the other half of my soul. If I could just spend the rest of my lives like this, I would consider myself lucky.

The moment was broken when Risha Pulled my mate away and shouted,“Kiara! How dare you!”

Slap! A cracking sound boomed as Risha slapped Kiara hard across her face.

My eyes turned red and a growl escaped my throat. I grabbed Risha by her shoulders and roared, “How dare YOU slap my mate?”

The color drained from her face and her jaws hung open. Her eyes darted between Kiara and me as she whispered, “Mate.”

Sensing the commotion Dad, Mom, Sandy, and Cami came rushing. Dad pulled me away and demanded an explanation.

I placed my arm on Kiara’s shoulder and took a protective stance beside her. Looking straight into my father’s eyes, I announced, “Kiara is my mate. No one is allowed to insult her, not even Risha!”

Silence hung in the air long after I made the announcement. My mate’s entry turned out to be a bit dramatic and everyone seemed a bit at a loss.

“No! Not her! She can’t be your MATE!” Risha shouted abruptly.

My mom glared at her but she continued, “You have no idea how hateful and insensitive Kiara is. She will make my brother’s life a living hell. He should reject her right away.”

My blood boiled at her statement. It took every ounce of my willpower to restrain myself from snapping at Risha.

“Risha! Enough!” Father’s furious voice boomed. “This is not a joke. As the future alpha of the mystical pack, my son Kevin will honor the will of Moon Goddess.”

I placed my hand on my chest and bowed. I cast a sideward glance at Kiara but she didn’t take the hint and stood there stiff as a log. Probably she didn’t know about our customs.

I heard faint murmurs about the lack of her etiquette. I was wondering how I could distract them when Dad spoke up, “Kiara, isn’t it? What is your full name?”

“It is just Kiara.” Her dry reply stunned me. I stole a glance at Kiara to find that her face was stoic; as if nothing in this world mattered to her.

Dad cleared his throat and tried again, “Who is your Alpha?”

“I don’t know.”

“Tell me the name of your pack.”

“Don’t know.”
