Every Breath You Take novel Chapter 86

Monica went out of the coffee shop and received a phone call from Roland. "Where are you?"

"I went to see Summer." She lied.

"Why didn't you tell me? I made a trip in vain." Roland's voice was full of complaints.

"I'm sorry, I left in a hurry and forgot." She apologized, but Roland did not care. "I'm going back to the company. See you later."

Monica hung up the phone and got on the taxi. It was the peak time of work and there were a lot of cars on the road. She got stuck in traffic. Fortunately, her boss was Roland, so she wouldn't be scolded even if she was late. Thinking of Roland, she had a sweet smile on her face.

A familiar voice rang out. "How long is it going to take?"

Monica turned to look over and found Eva. Eva used to be her attending physician. She'd been spending a lot of time with Eva to help with the infertility. At that time, she often appeared in Eva's office. The patients thought she was Eva's daughter because she looked like Eva.

Monica also felt strange about it. She'd known Eva before and was not related to her. However, Eva looked like her. To be exact, Eva looked like her mother.

Because of this, she naturally felt a sense of closeness to Eva. She firmly believed in Eva and had never changed her doctor.

Wasn't Eva working in City A? Why did she come to Jiang City?

Eva did not see Monica. She was complaining to the man beside her. When Monica saw the man beside her clearly, she was shocked. Wasn't he Roland's father?

How could Roland's father be with Eva? Was Eva the woman who made Roland's father abandon his wife and son?

It was possible. Eva was still charming at such an old age. When she was young, she must be a beautiful woman and had the ability to fascinate men. Monica's closeness to Eva disappeared at this moment. She had never had a good impression of mistresses.

When Monica arrived at the company, Roland was talking to Beck. Seeing her coming in, they stopped talking. Beck got up and left. Roland complained, "If you don't come, I'll go out and look for you."

"There was traffic jam on the road." Monica smiled.

"Come here, I have something to tell you." Roland waved his hand and said, "Mandy came to Jiang City yesterday. I guess she'll come to find you. If she wants to see you, you must remember to tell me."

"It's too late. She already came to me." Monica answered.

"Didn't you say that you went to see Summer? How dare you lie to me!" Roland raised his eyebrows and was about to lose his temper. "I was afraid that you'd worry about me." She reached out to hold his hand, which calmed him down. He held her hand and asked, "What did she say?"

"Do you really want to know?" She raised her eyebrows and looked at him with a faint smile. "She told me about your love story and asked me not to interfere with your childhood love."

"Moni, I don't love her at all. You must have a firm stand!" Roland was a little anxious.

"If I believed her, would I still be standing here talking to you?" Monica stared at him. Roland smiled after thinking about it, but he still reminded her, "Don't believe what others say. Everyone will lie to you except me. Got it?"

Monica nodded. "I see! I am waiting for you to make me happy!"

Recalling what she saw on her way, she couldn't help asking, "Roland, do you know Eva Xi?"

"No." Roland answered, but then he sneered and said, "I've heard of her. My dad abandoned my mom and I for her!"

"Is it really her?" Monica was shocked.

Quarmy frowned. Monica and Roland were in love, but Mandy chose to go back without saying anything. It was not Mandy's style to give up.

What worried him the most was the change of Monica. In the past, she broke up with Leon as soon as Old Mrs. Gu showed up. Now, in front of Mandy, she didn't give in or escape, and even let Mandy leave in disgrace. How could she have such a big change? Didn't she hate playboys? Why did she have a crush on that playboy Roland? Why?

Quarmy frowned and he was in a mess. He knew clearly that Roland was already important to her.

He felt a sharp pain in his heart. For a moment, he didn't know what to do. Should he just let her marry Roland and stay with him forever?

No! He couldn't stand by and watch this happen. He must do something.

Just as he was thinking, the door was pushed open. Noah came in and said, "Old Mr. Wang came to Jiang City!"

Old Mr. Wang actually came here in person. Quarmy was glad and worried. He was glad that Old Mr. Wang finally couldn't stand it anymore. But he was also worried that Old Mr. Wang would deal with Monica. Monica was a straightforward person with strong self-esteem. How could she be a match for Old Mr. Wang?

Old Mr. Wang didn't inform Roland that he was in Jiang City. He came to an ordinary hotel in a low profile and called Monica that night.

His voice was very kind. "I'm Roland's grandfather. Miss Mo, I'd like to see you. When are you free?"

Monica was very surprised to receive his call. He came as soon as Mandy left. The Wang family really cared about Roland's marriage. She replied, "Anytime."

"Since that's the case, let's meet now."

Monica went to the tea room where Old Mr. Wang was. Two bodyguards stood at the door. When they saw Monica, they politely pushed the door open. "Miss Mo, please!"

Monica entered the room and saw the old man sitting on the sofa. He looked like he was 60 years old, but she knew that he was over 70 years old. He had facial features similar to Roland's, but he didn't seem as approachable as Roland was. Instead, he looked indifferent.

Hearing the voice, Old Mr. Wang looked up at Monica. He had seen her photo a long time ago, but at this moment, when he saw her in person, he was still surprised. No wonder his grandson would love her. If she had not been divorced and had a bad background, she would have been worthy of his grandson.

Monica nodded to him. There was a smile on his face, but there was not a trace of smile in his eyes. "Miss Mo, please sit down!"

Monica sat opposite him. The waiter came in with tea and went out. Old Mr. Wang picked up the cup and took a sip. "Miss Mo, are you born and bred in Jiang City?"

"Yes." Monica replied.

"What's the relationship between you and Hannah?"

"She's my mother." Monica subconsciously looked at Old Mr. Wang. How did he know her mother's name?

"Oh! I wonder if Roland has told you about our family." Old Mr. Wang's voice was still so kind.

"A bit."

"Then you must know that he grew up without a father. What do you think of this, Miss Mo?"

"I feel sorry for him." Monica did not know what he wanted to say. He must have come to her to separate her from Roland. But why didn't he say it directly? He wouldn't mention other things for no reason. Monica became more careful.

"That woman who made Roland lose his father's love is also born and bred in Jiang City. What's weird is that her name is the same as your mother's. I don't know if it is a coincidence." Old Mr. Wang said it slowly.

Monica was stunned. In her memory, her parents had always been in love, and her mother died when she was about ten years old. How could she possibly have a relationship with Roland's dad? "Maybe it's a coincidence."

"I have a photo of Roland's father and that woman. Miss Mo, would you like to have a look?" Old Mr. Wang took out a photo from somewhere and put it on the table.

The photo was a little yellow, obviously because it was old. Monica picked it up and took a look at it. Her face suddenly changed. "How is it possible?"

The handsome man in the photo looked like Roland, and she was sure that the woman in his arms was her mother. Seeing her face change greatly, Old Mr. Wang said unhurriedly, "Miss Mo, do you know this woman?"

"Could this be a mistake?" Monica was confused. Roland said that his dad's mistress was a married woman. How could her mother have an affair with his father? But the photo in her hand was so clear. "No! Impossible! It must be a mistake!" In Monica's memory, her mother loved her father so much. How could she have an affair with another man? Monica did not believe it.

"This is all the truth. Roland's father left his wife and son because of your mother. Roland was still young when he left. No matter what I did, he never changed his mind. Later, your mother died in a car accident, but he still refused to turn back." Old Mr. Wang sighed deeply.

"It must be a mistake. It's impossible for my mother to be a mistress!" Monica murmured to herself. She suddenly remembered that Roland said his father was with Eva. "The one Roland's father likes is a woman who looks like my mother. Her name is Eva Xi. She is a doctor. I saw her and Roland's father a few days ago!"

"Can't you even recognize you mother? As for Eva you mentioned, she is indeed the mistress of Roland's father. But you know what? Roland's father stays with her because she looks like your mother."

Monica couldn't accept it. but the woman in the photo was indeed her mother. She and Roland's father were hugging each other intimately. Monica closed her eyes painfully. The person who Roland hated most was her mother. How could this be?

"Miss Mo, now do you see why I object to you being with Roland ? It is not because you are a single mother, but because you are the daughter of the person whom he hates the most. Because your mother, Roland has lost his father's love since young. What will he think if he knows that?" Old Mr. Wang said it slowly, but his words were heart-

chapter 86 wrenching. "Think about it carefully. If you think that you can still be with Roland calmly, I won't object. But one day, he'll know the truth..."

Monica tried her best not to lose her composure, but the huge impact still made her eyes full of tears. She didn't want to cry in front of outsiders, so she stood up and nodded goodbye to Old Mr. Wang. Looking at her straight back, he finally had a trace of reluctance in his eyes.

"Roland, I've always been afraid of falling in love with you, because I'm afraid of losing myself and being disappointed again. But now, what reason do I have to accept your love calmly?

"Sorry, Roland, I can't afford your love because I don't deserve it! I don't deserve it!" Monica felt unspeakable bitterness and pain. In fact, she couldn't hold on any longer, but she still walked out with a trace of faith. Only she herself knew how difficult it was to maintain her calm pace.

It was raining outside. The heavy rain drenched her and she felt really cold. This situation was very similar to that of three years ago. Three years ago, it was also a rainy night. She left alone from Quarmy's luxury villa. The rain fell on her thin body. The wet clothes made her fell bone- chilling coldness. However, no matter how cold her body was, it was not as cold as her heart.

In the past few years, she had never allowed herself to recall it. She had always thought she would never feel the pain again, but she still experienced it again only three years later.

She was exhausted, and her vision was blurred. She stepped on something. Then, she stumbled and fell into the muddy water.

The heart-wrenching pain spread. She struggled to get up, but found that she had no strength at all. A man appeared beside her in the rain fog.

He knew that Old Mr. Wang would give her a fatal blow, but he didn't expect that she would become like this. He was familiar with her every move and expression, but he had never seen her losing her soul and being like a walking dead.

Back then, when faced with the unfair divorce agreement, she stayed calm and signed her name, which had left a deep impression in Quarmy's heart. In his dreams, he would ask himself why she could be so heartless. Was her heart made of iron?

Seeing her become a walking dead for Roland, Quarmy's heart was broken, and blood was flowing out of it.

Their five- year marriage actually couldn't be compared with her few months of getting along with Roland. Women were really heartless. Quarmy reached out and picked her up from the ground. "Monica, you asked for humiliation. You can't blame others!"

Monica felt a sense of soberness when she heard the familiar voice. She suddenly grabbed Quarmy's collar. "Quarmy, are you happy to see me like this?"

With that said, she could no longer hold back her tears. Quarmy originally wanted to mock her, but when he saw her tears, he swallowed all the unpleasant words. He picked her up and strode to the car next to him.

"Quarmy, let me go! I don't want to take your car!" She struggled in his arms, waving her hands. She tried so hard that he felt the burning pain on his face, but he didn't let go of her.

She was put in the back seat of the car. He fastened her seat belt, locked the door and started the car. She scolded him crazily. He had never seen her being so crazy. His heart hurt, but he still felt a bit happy.

Was it possible for her to be with Roland after such a thing?

The car rushed to the hospital. Monica kept cursing on the way. She found herself like a shrew, but she didn't care because it was the only way to make her feel better.

Quarmy pretended not to hear her curse. Finally, the car stopped at the door of the hospital. He strode into the hospital with Monica in his arms. Ignoring the surprised eyes of others, he took her into the doctor's office. "She just fell down. Please check her out."

Monica just grazed and bled a little. The doctor prescribed her some medicine. Quarmy took her out of the hospital. Surprising, there was no sound in the car. Monica leaned on the back of the chair and looked blankly ahead. Quarmy's heart began to hurt again when he saw her absent-minded look.

Finally, the car stopped. Monica opened the door. After a few steps, she looked back at Quarmy and said, "Knowing you is my biggest joke in my life. Quarmy, I beg you not to appear in my life again, okay?"

Quarmy hit the steering wheel with his fist. The car turned around perfectly and disappeared in the mist of rain.

Monica went downstairs calmly. Roland stood by the car and looked at her with a smile. She felt bitter when she saw his bright smile.

She walked towards him step by step, and she felt her feet were really heavy. It was a short walk, but she walked for a long time. Roland opened the door, and she got in the car speechlessly. He looked at her with a smile, "Why didn't you pick up my call last night?"

"My phone was out of power." Monica answered.

"Really? Do you know how tough I was last night? I couldn't fall asleep all of a sudden. I wanted to talk to someone, but I couldn't get through when I called you, which made me sleepless all night. You have to compensate me!"

Monica turned her head suddenly and hugged him. She took the initiative to kiss him. Roland was stunned. It was obvious that she was shocked by her initiative. After a long time, he reacted and began to kiss her back.

Finally, the two separated. "If it was not daylight, I'd really do you!" Roland gasped.
