From Sneers to Cheers: Anthea’s Ascent (Anthea ) novel Chapter 422

Even Edna, who practically raised him, couldn't make Gerard see reason.

"She's not worth it!" Edna had pleaded. "Gerry, it breaks my heart. You care so much about your mother, but some people... they're just not worth your time. You've been motherless since you were a toddler, and I've watched you grow. I truly hope you can see me as your mother! Rest assured, I will love you as my own."

"Are you even capable?" Gerard's tone was ice cold, his eyes filled with sarcasm.

Stunned, Edna was at a loss.

She had hoped to sway Gerard, to win him over.

But Gerard was unyielding, responding with harsh words despite her lowered stance.

"Just a stubborn brat!" she thought bitterly.

Ungrateful!

Utterly clueless about the situation!

Edna tried a different tack, attempting to appear more pitiful to gain Gerard's sympathy, "Gerry, I know you don't like me, and I don't blame you! But everything I've said is true! You're a good kid, and I believe you can see the truth! If your mother was really a good mother, would she have ignored you all this time?"

She was determined to drive a wedge between mother and son.

"If stirring up trouble worked, I might as well rename myself 'Fool,'" Gerard retorted.

With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Edna staring after him, her face paling with anger.

"Scoundrel!" she fumed silently. "He's nothing but a scoundrel!"

After Gerard left, Delia approached, "How did it go?"

Edna, struggling to contain her fury, shook her head, "That stubborn kid won't budge. We'll have to think of something else."

She refused to believe they couldn't handle a nineteen-year-old.

Delia's eyes narrowed with malice, "Had I known, I would've made sure he didn't survive nineteen years ago!"

Back then, Gerard was just a baby, without his mother's care. Any accident could've been easily dismissed without suspicion.

But now, Gerard was nineteen.
