Sherman continued tallying his tasks, "Whether or not I'm into the whole lifelong bachelor thing, it doesn't really clash with keeping you guys safe."
Karen glanced at him, "I've made plans with Ann, we're setting off Wednesday afternoon. You free?"
"Got some downtime." Sherman's tone was nonchalant.
Downtime?
The execs at Christensen Group would faint in the restroom if they heard that.
"Let's do that then! Ugh," Karen sighed, "Such a shame! I was kinda hoping to play matchmaker with Ann and Riley. Guess the stars aren't aligned."
Adah silently applauded Karen's acting skills.
Sherman coolly responded, "Maybe they're just not meant to be, Grandma. Leave the matchmaking to fate."
"Don't you know the saying, 'familiarity breeds fondness'?" Karen retorted, exasperated. "Silly goose! Talking to you is like talking to a wall!"
Sherman: "..."
He started to doubt if he was even the biological grandchild.
Maybe Riley was.
Adah covered her mouth to stifle a giggle.
...
At a certain restaurant.
It was Nanson Yeager's first time inviting Violet White for a meal.
Nanson arrived ten minutes early on purpose.
Soon after, Violet showed up too.
She was always punctual.
"Mr. Yeager."
"Miss White." Nanson stood up to pull out a chair for Violet.
Violet smiled lightly, "Thank you, Mr. Yeager."
Nanson said, "This Mr. and Miss thing is too formal, just call me Nanson."
"You're a few years older, so maybe I'll call you Big Bro Nanson?"
Nanson nodded, "Sure, that works."
As he handed the menu to Violet, "Ladies first, what will you have?"
Violet chuckled, "A garden salad will do for me. You pick the rest, Big Bro Nanson."
"Just a garden salad?" Nanson asked.
Violet nodded, "Gotta maintain the figure for dance teaching." Violet was a contemporary dance instructor, so her image and poise were impeccable.
"That must be tough, in your line of work," Nanson remarked.
Violet smiled, "Every job has its challenges."
