Grandpa said with a smile, "I'm the same ol' same. I don't have a lot to do except for looking forward to the next time you come by to see me."
Grandpa changed the topic and asked, "I heard from your brother that you are willing to come back to the company to take over his business, right?"
I was stunned and said, "I do have such a plan."
Grandpa narrowed his eyes and smiled, "When you return to the company, you have to take over half of his business. There are only two kids in the family, so you two are all I count on."
"Sure," I replied, and my grandfather asked again, "Em, I heard from your brother that you have a child called Ellis Dunn, am I right?"
Joel told him everything about me. He knew everything about me, but he had already investigated everything about me.
Every move of mine was in his eyes.
He asked this because he didn't want to put me in a difficult position.
I answered obediently, "Yes, he's five years old."
"Ellis Dunn, a Dunn..."
Grandpa paused for a moment, then laughed heartily and said, "If you have time, bring him home to me. I'm all alone in this house and I want some company. Hence, I don't really care if he's a Dunn or a Shears, the child has done nothing wrong. But Emma, there are things that could be forgiven and also things that are not to be forgotten."
Grandpa was a strong person and was extremely protective of his people, so it was not easy for him to endure what he knew for the time being.
Seeing that he was so kind and tolerant, I felt a little sad and said, "Those families out there all look down on me, but I have my own integrity. I want them to think highly of me, not because of my family behind me, so I have been hiding my identity all the time."
"I know, Joel told me all about this, so I have ordered him to do his best to help you. I am very delighted that you wanted to run a company on your own. And once it's on the right track, you will take over the Shears family."
He was waiting for me to have the ability to take over the family business.
Rather than just letting me rest on my laurels.
With tears streaming down my face, I said weakly, "Thank you, grandpa."
"I haven't liked the Dunn family for a long time. How can my granddaughter be looked down upon like this? I'll definitely settle this with them!"
I smiled and asked, "Grandfather, did anyone ever say that you're overprotective?"
Grandpa smiled and said, "Ha, of course! Come on, wipe those tears off."
I laughed happily, and my recent frustration was finally relieved. When I took a taxi back to the apartment, I met Victoria.
I met Victoria downstairs.
She obviously was there for me.
Frowning, I looked at her coldly and asked, "What are you doing here?"
"My sister has always been a proud person. Of course, except for when she's with Zack. But Zack never cares whether she's proud or anything else. The only reason she would act that way is because of you!"
Victoria's words let me understand that she knew that Teresa had just gone to Zack's house to bump into me. I smiled and asked, "And then?"
Victoria was a woman that wasn't inferior to Teresa. She was beautiful, elegant, and intelligent. She also looked down on me from the start, just like Teresa. It was as if talking to me would be a waste of her breath.
But the men they like both happened to be in my hands.
Victoria lowered her head and looked at her red nails, which were decorated with some delicate patterns. She smiled faintly and said, "The girl at Zack's house was Laurelie, right? Laurelie Weier. Our dad told us not to mess with her 'cause she might be the next director of the Weier family and so we didn't. See? Even people like us know who to mess with and who not to. How come a useless woman like you cannot understand something that simple?"
They didn't dare to mess with Laurelie so they chose me?
I laughed. Victoria fiddled with her nails and said, "Even though I don't dare to mess with Laurelie, it doesn't mean that I can't. It's just that I won't bet on the Heaney family's profits. But if one day she breaks the bottom line of me and my sister, we will make our move on her!"
I felt that she was very funny and her words were contradictory. I smiled and asked, "So? If you know that when one day Laurelie broke your bottom line and you would resist, wouldn't I resist if you had violated my bottom line? Teresa framed me many times and forced me to jump into the sea and even made me lose my memory. Do you want me to pretend that nothing had happened? If Laurelie treated you like this, what makes you think that I wouldn't do anything to you?"
Victoria was stunned for a moment before she gritted her teeth and said, "You think you are quite tough, don't you?!"
I said insipidly, "Same to you."
Victoria's face turned cold, "I didn't come today to argue with you for these useless things. It was my sister who wanted you to know the truth of that year."
I asked, "What if I don't want to know? You are still gonna tell me all the same?"
"Yes," Victoria said coldly, "the reason why the plan was put into real work was not that it was authorized by the Solange and the Heaney families, but Benjamin's father himself. Benjamin knew about it all the time. He knew about it five years ago, but he didn't protect you, or at all, he didn't want to protect you."
My face turned pale. Satisfied, Victoria said, "The Dunn family has always tacitly agreed to my sister's doing. Otherwise, why do you think the Dunn family's old man would always protect my sister? This is the reason and answer you want."
The reality was always cruel, and the truth was always unpredictable. I looked at Victoria's back as she left and suddenly realized something.
Where was I? Why was I still alive?
At that moment, my face was covered in tears, and all of my strength vanished. The grievance in my heart was getting heavier and heavier.
I had imagined an even worse situation but never thought that at that time when Benjamin knew that it was Teresa's plot, he still chose to save her.
He was not willing to take any risks with Teresa.
Even if she was a pretentious b*tch!
But he was willing to!
I covered my face and went back to the apartment. As soon as I sat on the sofa and cried bitterly, I received a call from Benjamin.
I was stunned for quite a while before I picked up the phone and asked blandly, "What?"
He asked in a cold and attractive voice, "Do you have time, Mrs. Dunn? Mr. Dunn invites you to have lunch together."
I was no longer his Mrs. Dunn.
The divorce agreement had been long effective.
