Benjamin's voice was slightly hoarse and more seducing than usual, but he seemed to have forgotten what happened the night before.
He was always like this, giving me a strange feeling.
I didn't take the blame and said, "Don't push everything on me. If you are sick, go to the hospital yourself. I'm still busy."
Benjamin said calmly, "Alas, a cold-hearted woman."
"Is there anything else?" I asked.
"I will come to the police station in the afternoon," Benjamin said suddenly.
I was stunned. Thinking of what September had said, I said bluntly, "For Victoria? What's wrong? Don't wanna see her bullied?"
"What're you talking about?" Benjamin chuckled and said, "Victoria is coming to the police station, but Sean's gonna take care of that, and it has nothing to do with me. I just wanna come over to see you and Ellis."
"Oh, I'm not at the police station this afternoon." I lied. "I'm on a mission this afternoon, so you don't have to come by."
I was afraid that he and Zack would meet face to face.
After all, that wouldn't be a very pleasant scene.
"If you lie, you'll have to be punished," said Benjamin casually.
He didn't believe me, so I immediately changed my mind and said, "Well, get here early, and I'll go out for the mission later."
"Well, good girl."
I hung up the phone speechlessly and felt that I was fooled again. But what was I afraid of in my heart?
At noon, I took Ellis to eat at the canteen, and Bob also followed me into the canteen. I asked curiously, "Why are you in the canteen today?"
"It's raining outside. I'm not in the mood to go out." Bob complained. "First it was the endless snow and now it's the endless pouring. What about summer? Endless roasting?!"
"Go back to City B if you don't like it," I said with a smile.
"Humph, do you think that I have been living in City B all the time?" Bob held the plate and said, "My whole family has moved to New
Zealand ."
I knew it because Zack would always back to New Zealand for New Year.
I asked about what Ellis liked to eat, and he pointed at the dish he wanted. I heard Bob say, "My dad also waited for me to grow up before he migrated, and I can't leave until I have my own children."
"Why?" I asked in surprise.
"The Channing family's business is in City B, so we must keep a family member here. Zack is young but he's my uncle. So he doesn't have to worry about it."
"You don't seem to worry about it either."
He had been at the police station for a long time, wasting his time every day.
"What do you know? I would go back to City B anytime if need be! In fact, I do envy Zack." Bob sighed and said, "He's got the most shares of the Channing Group, but he throws his responsibility to me. That b*stard."
I looked past Bob's shoulders and blinked at him, but Bob didn't understand my reminder. He said, "And do you know why he gets to enjoy all that without lifting one finger? Just because I gotta call him uncle! If he had a son and wasn't single even when he's already thirty, I wouldn't be suffering from all that business crap!"
A cold voice asked, "Really? I offer my sincere gratitude on behalf of the whole family, Bob."
Bob was so scared that his tray was dropped on the floor. Pretending that he didn't see Zack, he put his hand on his head and moaned. "I'm not feeling very well, Emma. Help me clean this up, I gotta go back to the office to take a nap."
Bob ran off in a flash. I looked at the disgusting food on the ground, but when I squatted down, someone reached out and pulled me back.
I looked up at him and explained, "Bob didn't mean it, but you scared him."
Zack pursed his lips and smiled. He squatted down and used a tissue to clean the place. After cleaning it up, he lowered his head and looked at Ellis.
He then called out softly, "Ellis."
I was not surprised that he knew Ellis. Even though they were not familiar with each other, he had seen the Dunn family's children more or less.
Ellis took my hand and politely said, "Uncle Zack."
Zack asked, "Well, where is your Dad?"
Ellis said nervously, "Connor is in City B."
"Connor... " Zack thought for a while but didn't say anything more.
After lunch, I packed some food for Bob in the canteen. He opened the lunch box with chopsticks in hand and said with fear, "Why didn't you tell me he was behind me? I'm gonna be stuck in this s*itty department forever"
"You weren't going back anytime soon anyway!"
Zack said that because of a few other things, he hadn't considered letting Bob back to the crime squad. In fact, from his attitude towards Bob, I knew that he was also a cold-hearted person. He was good at using his own methods to punish others.
It's just that he was never cold to me.
At 3 p.m., Sean came to the police station with Victoria, and Ellis immediately ran to Benjamin to ask for a hug.
Benjamin patted his head and did not hug him. Ellis stayed by his side with some disappointment.
I took Victoria to the interrogation room. A few minutes later, September came over in her uniform and asked, "Where's Bob?"
I answered, "He's at Zack's. He's probably coming soon."
September smiled brightly at Sean and asked, "Why are you here?"
Sean looked at September with bright eyes and explained, "Victoria is like a sister to me. I can't leave her alone to this"
September asked, "What if I say I did this on purpose?"
