Jeanie opened the door and saw my mother sitting on the sofa while her father massaged her back. At the sight of that, she let out a cold snort and returned to her room.

She closed the door with a bang.

My mother glared at my stepfather and complained. "Take a look at your daughter. What have I done to offend her again?"

"Jeanie is just a child."

"I agree to a divorce, and I agree that we can each have half of our assets." Steve's tender voice rang out, and he sounded a little upset. "Emma, I still love you, but you are forcing me to a dead end again and again."

I frowned. Even though I felt sad, I still said with determination, "Steve Hughes, let's go to the civil affairs bureau for the divorce tomorrow."

Steve paused for a moment and said, "Emma, can you come home now? I need to talk to you about the division of assets."
