Ellis took my hand and lowered his head to explain in a low voice, "I don't know... I just... I just didn't wanna let you know that day."

The excuse Ellis made up was as unconvincing as the ones Benjamin used to make up to me.

I pretended to believe it, reached out and rubbed his head, and said, "It's okay. You don't need to tell me about this."

Ellis asked with apprehension, "Auntie, don't you blame me for that?"

I smiled and said, "I'd rather not waste that time and give you a bit more love."

Bob came to pick us up in a car. As soon as he got off the car, he saw Ellis. He frowned and asked, "Why is this little fella here?"

Ellis used French to scold him for a retard, and he still remembered that!

I rubbed Ellis's head and explained with a smile, "He wants to hang out with me. I couldn't let him down!"

Bob rolled his eyes at me and took us back to the apartment. Then he called September and asked, "Zack is cooking, you wanna come?"

After Bob hung up the phone, I suggested, "Zack is gonna get off the plane at 7 o'clock. He must be very tired. Shall we do it ourselves?"

"Well, you can do it!" Bob smiled and said, "I only know how to peel a potato and whatnots. September can peel two and that is all."

Bob and September were not good at cooking. I glanced at him and said, "Then go and get some groceries with September."

After Bob left, I remembered that Zack's car was still parked at the airport. I called him. He quickly picked up the phone and asked in a light tone, "What's up?"

"Your car is at the airport. Do you have spare keys?"

Zack said, "Yeah, I'll drive home later."

"Okay, then we'll wait for you to go home."

I hung up the phone and asked Ellis who was sitting next to me, "You sleep with me tonight, do you want me to take you to buy pajamas?"

Ellis said, "Aunt, I have to take a bath at night."

I asked worriedly, "Do you want me to give you a bath?"

"Benjamin usually does that. If he's not around, Grandpa would do it. But you are a woman and I'm a man... Benjamin told me that it would not be appropriate. But I think that's just a lie!"

What he meant was that he agreed to let me take a bath for him. I reached out to hold him in my arms and said gently, "Auntie will take you to the mall now."

As soon as I arrived at the downstairs of the apartment, I saw Benjamin. He was leaning against the door. Holding Ellis in my arms, I frowned and asked, "Why are you here? I didn't know you were much of a stalker!"

"Benjamin, do you wanna stay with Auntie Emma?" Ellis held my neck with both hands and said with a smile, "But she is mine!"

Benjamin squinted at him, took him from my arms, and placed him on the ground. Then he reached out and grabbed my shoulder. He looked at Ellis and said, "And now? She's still yours?"

I was speechless.

Benjamin was so childish!

The small boy stood there looking at me with a look of grievance. I rolled my eyes at Benjamin. Then I crouched down and held Ellis in my arms again. "Grow up, will you?" I asked.

Benjamin was silent. I took the child to the nearby shopping mall. Ellis picked two sets of pajamas and some toys. When I went to pay, Benjamin took out his bank card first.

Originally, I wanted to use my own, but Benjamin was a stubborn person. In his mind, if he went to a mall with a woman and he didn't pay, it would be an insult to him!

So I didn't turn him down.

When we returned to the apartment, I said to Benjamin, "This is us."

"Tables turn," said Benjamin, raising his eyebrows and raising his lips as he threatened. "I hope you don't regret this!"

After Benjamin left, I went upstairs with Ellis in my arms. The child asked me in a sensitive and cautious tone, "Aunt Emma, are you angry with Benjamin? What did he do to you?"

I rubbed his head and said softly, "He didn't do anything to me, and I am not angry with him, just..."

It was just things could never go back to the way they were.

He abandoned me!

When I returned to the apartment, I only saw Bob. I put the child down and curiously asked him, "Where is September?"

"She left after a phone call." Bob sat down beside me and said, "Most likely, she went to the jerk!"

"How do you know?" I asked apprehensively.

Bob explained with his head tilted to one side, "She was in low spirits and left in a daze. I said that I could go with her, but she pushed me away and left. I called her but she just ran like a f*cking lunatic!"

I started to worry and immediately took Bob's car key and got up. "Bob, something's gonna happen! We need to find her quickly! Ellis, wait for us, and we'll come back very soon."

While sitting in the car, Bob asked in confusion, "What could happen to her?"

If my guess was right, Joel was coming back to City B today and Rose would be coming back with him for sure. Like Bob said, September left running like a lunatic, she must be headed towards Rose.
