Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1007

Who is Jared, you ask?

He was once the esteemed chairman of Tim Group, a name that echoed through the halls of corporate giants. Though the reins of Tim Group have since passed to Ryder, Mr. Whitfield, Jared, is no ordinary man. Stepping down from such heights, it’s unthinkable to see him settle for a mere assistant role at a television station. And not just any assistant role, but that of Agnes's assistant, no less. There’s bound to be more to the story.

The station manager, a savvy man, knows there’s a tangled web of emotions at play here. Agnes is Jared's ex-wife. Rumors of their rekindled romance have been swirling, yet at a recent gathering with Peter, Agnes seemed to be caught up in some drama with the station's new star, Ryder. Could Jared's departure from Tim Group be related to Agnes? The plot thickens.

Yet, when Mr. Whitfield proposed such a condition, the station manager found himself in a tight spot, unable to refuse. Agnes, however, was quick to dismiss the idea. "No way, I don't need an assistant of his caliber."

The station manager, caught between a rock and a hard place, glanced over at Jared. Stepping forward, Jared said, "Ms. Pritchard seems to have some misconceptions about me. I’m merely applying for a job for which I am more than qualified, especially considering my expertise in photography and software, not to mention my ability to learn quickly. I’m sure I won’t disappoint."

The truth was, Jared was overqualified, and that’s exactly why Agnes hesitated to hire him. Being the former chairman of Tim Group, it didn’t make sense for him to be applying as her assistant, unless he had ulterior motives. Agnes couldn’t quite figure out his angle.

She tried to let him down gently, "This place is too small for someone of your stature."

Jared raised an eyebrow, "If you acknowledge my stature, then you shouldn’t refuse. It’s not every day your ‘small temple’ gets a visit from a ‘big Buddha’."

Agnes fell silent.

Jared continued, "I’ve already submitted my joining report, and a three-month probation period seems fair, even if Ms. Pritchard has her reservations."

Before Agnes could argue further, the station manager made the final call, "That’s settled then, Agnes. I think Mr. Whitfield is a great fit. He’s a man; he can handle things and support you."

And just like that, Jared became Agnes's assistant, a situation she found utterly unbelievable. In the office, Hans, Ben, and the others were dumbfounded by the turn of events.

Ramona, ever the gossip, whispered to Ben, "What’s the deal with those two? Whose girlfriend is our boss, actually?"

Ramona had always thought Agnes was Jared's girlfriend. But after the Bronzetown Borough earthquake incident, her certainty wavered. Mr. Ryder had risked his life to save Agnes. And Ramona vividly remembered seeing Ryder, holding Agnes's hand against his cheek while she lay unconscious in the infirmary – an intimacy usually reserved for lovers.

Their love life was turning out to be more enthralling than a soap opera, with wealthy suitors vying for attention and acts of valor all for love. It was far more intriguing than any TV drama.

Ben rolled his eyes at Ramona, signaling her to stop spreading gossip. But with Mr. Whitfield going to such lengths, even taking up an assistant's post at the TV station, it seemed their days ahead would be anything but dull.
