Agnes reached out to Phenix again.
Phenix mentioned that it had been a while since she last saw Kearney. She was immersed in the excitement of her upcoming wedding with Sean in Bali, reveling in the joy of being a bride-to-be, hardly thinking about anything else.
Agnes chose not to share the troubling news about Albert’s Arms and the drug trafficking case with Phenix. Firstly, the matter was highly confidential. Secondly, Agnes didn't want to dampen Phenix's happiness with such grim news.
Agnes maintained a neutral stance on the issue. Manufacturing and trafficking drugs were unforgivable crimes that wreaked havoc on countless families every year. If someone at Albert’s Arms was indeed involved in drug trafficking, Agnes wouldn't cover for them. She was determined to bring the truth to light.
The next day, the news was flooded with reports of the Black Falcon Unit's arrest of Lanny. The evidence against him for selling drugs was irrefutable, leading to his prosecution.
Jarvis had also been in touch with Agnes, mentioning that their actions had scared off the bigger fish, so the hunt for Honey Badger had to be put on hold. He had since moved on to the Capital to continue his investigation.
With the plans changed, Agnes's mission had come to an end. Though they hadn't caught the big fish, they had managed to eliminate a menace to society. This incident seemed like just a minor episode in Agnes's career. The people and events quickly faded from her life. Aside from Judson, no one at the TV station knew she had been involved in the operation.
Yet, the number she had seemed to prick at her conscience. Deep down, Agnes hoped the investigation wouldn't link back to Albert’s Arms, least of all to Reggie Albert.
Surprisingly, Jared had landed a job as her assistant at the TV station. Every day, from on-site interviews to various shootings, he was there, helping out with everything, even fetching coffee. Agnes had hoped to push him away, so she deliberately assigned him menial tasks. But contrary to her expectations, Jared handled everything efficiently and with grace, leaving everyone, including the team, in awe.
Initially, everyone kept their distance from Jared, given his former status as CEO of the Tim Group and his naturally aloof demeanor. But within a few days, Hans, Ben, and Ramona had all warmed up to him. They started calling him "brother-in-law," always trying to set him up with Agnes, creating opportunities for them to be alone. Didn't they have enough alone time in the villa at night? Why did Jared's face have to pop up everywhere at the TV station?
Like during lunchtime. Agnes used to join Ben, Ramona, and the others in the station's cafeteria. But these past few days, they seemed to vanish right before lunch, leaving her no choice but to join Jared. Their lunchtimes inevitably drew attention. Almost everyone at the TV station knew Jared, and his decision to work there as an assistant was the talk of the town. Agnes had become a subject of gossip.
She had even run into Yolanda Bowman in the cafeteria twice. Just now. Yolanda, aware that Jared had lost his CEO position, mocked him in front of Agnes. Agnes couldn't stand it and snapped back. But Jared remained unfazed.
After sitting down, Agnes looked up and said, “Jared, are you really okay with being my assistant here, subject to ridicule and disrespect? What are you thinking? Have you really given up on the Tim Group for good?”
