Jarvis warned Agnes, "Ms. Pritchard, you know this drug manufacturing case could be the biggest in our country in the last fifty years. Countless lives have been lost, tearing apart families here and abroad, and jeopardizing the futures of so many children. So, if it ever comes to that day, I hope you'll stand with justice and the law. Of course, I also hope that what you've said is true, and that none of your loved ones are involved."
Agnes was at a loss for words. Her emotions were a tangled mess. Could such a day ever really come?
Just then, the interrogation room door swung open, and another plainclothes detective entered. He whispered something in Jarvis's ear. Jarvis's expression turned grave, and he swiftly exited the room.
Agnes was left alone in the interrogation room for a brief moment before someone came in and said, "Ms. Pritchard, you're free to go. Someone has posted your bail."
To Agnes's surprise, the person who bailed her out was Kearney. But Patton, due to irrefutable evidence and allegations, remained detained, insisting on his innocence.
Jared was also waiting outside. As Agnes emerged, Jared approached her. Kearney mentioned, "Reggie is waiting outside too."
Exiting the police station, they got into a sleek black sedan. The sedan followed a car with a distinctive license plate closely but not too closely, a plate that made both friends and foes take a detour upon sight.
Jarvis also came out, his face turning serious at the sight of that license plate. He hadn't expected Albert to personally get involved.
The car finally pulled up in front of Eden Nights. Reggie stepped out of the car. Phoenix was already waiting at the entrance. Seeing Reggie, Phoenix's face lit up with both joy and worry, and he quickly greeted, "Hey, godfather."
Agnes and Jared also stepped out of the car. Leading the way, Kearney walked up to Reggie and said nothing. Reggie, with a stone-cold voice, commanded, "All of you, follow me."
Reggie led the way into a grand suite at Pegasus Plaza, a place exclusively for Reggie's use, usually off-limits to outsiders. Agnes followed inside. Jared, however, stayed at the door, not entering. "I'm an outsider after all. I'll wait for you here," Jared told Agnes, perhaps trying to distance himself from Reggie.
Was he trying to clarify his stance as an outsider between them? Agnes felt no need to drag Jared into this mess and nodded in agreement.
As the door to the study closed, Reggie turned and immediately confronted Kearney, "Kearney, what the hell is going on?"
Kearney responded calmly, "Reggie, I honestly had no idea about Patton's involvement in drug trafficking."
"You're in charge of all operations at Albert’s Arms. How could you not know about something this big?"
Kearney replied smoothly, "It was well-concealed, they kept tight-lipped, and their operations were outside the Capital. I truly didn't know."
Phoenix also chimed in, "Reggie, Kearney wouldn’t do something like this. You’ve always taught us to have principles in life and business. I believe Kearney wouldn’t stoop to such depths."
