Kearney said with a chilling calm, "Godfather will be here any minute now, and he's clueless about everything. Get me the keys, and I'll spare your life."
"I won't cooperate with you," Agnes declared firmly.
"The moment Godfather steps ashore, I'll have him shot in a hail of bullets," Kearney stated, his tone eerily composed.
Disbelief flashed across Agnes's face. She couldn't fathom how Kearney could discuss taking a life as if it were as trivial as stepping on an ant. Yet, she knew better than to provoke this demon.
Anger burned in her gaze as she looked at Kearney.
Kearney smiled. "Septima, at least give me your word. You still have a choice, maybe you can find a way out, right?"
His piercing eyes seemed to look straight through her.
Agnes remained silent.
"Your silence is consent then," Kearney said, just as a streak of light passed outside.
He moved slowly to the balcony's edge and added, "Godfather's here, Septima. His life is in your hands now. Don't disappoint me."
With those words, Kearney left the room.
Rushing to the terrace, Agnes saw a light approaching rapidly from the sea.
Was Godfather alone?
